virus showed up after clicking on a link from AIM. anti virus software finds file c:/dra.exe on startup and finds dra.exe in temp directory every few hrs.

I removed O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet with Hijack this and ran all the other programs. Activescan is the only one that found anything.

i have attached activescan log and hijack this log.

how do i remove this virus?

    thanks

Please attach the require BitDefender log from step 6 of the READ & RUN ME.

Also see step 7 again and install HJT properly.

You should not be using HJT without direction from someone. nwiz.exe is for NVIDIA nView Wizard (your graphics card)

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to OSdebug (or if not found look for Microsoft Regulator ) ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    OSdebug

If that does not work try entering the short name: Microsoft Regulator

Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

First look in Add/Remove programs and uninstall Need2Find or Need2Find Bar (let me know if you find it here).

For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: Need2Find Bar BHO - {4D1C4E81-A32A-416b-BCDB-33B3EF3617D3} - C:\Program Files\Need2Find\bar\1.bin\ND2FNBAR.DLL
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://kl.bar.need2find.com/KL/menusearch.html?p=KL
    O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe
    O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
O23 - Service: OSdebug (Microsoft Regulator) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\msoevc.exe <-- this should already be gone.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\Program Files\Need2Find <-- the whole Need2Find folder
    C:\Program Files\PartyPoker <-- the whole Need2Find folder
    C:\WINDOWS\msoevc.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

Reminder Note: Once we have determine you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

When i enter the properties menu for OSdebug i cannot stop the service. All of the options in the bottom portion ( start stop pause resume are shaded out).

Can you set the Startup type to disabled? If so do that and continue. Even if you get an error anywhere just continue and explain later. We will deal with it afterwards. If necessary we will fix it another way.

Everything seems to be working fine, and the Virus warning has not popped up. I did find the Need2Find Bar Add/Remove programs. I ran HJT again, and attached the log. I haven't done the system restore reboot yet. Let me know if I'm ready to do it, or if there is anything else that I should do. Thanks for the help.

    You're welcome and Yes!

Your log is clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
