Help replacing a bad capacitor

Hi there, i'm having trouble figuring out the equevalent vyalue of a bad capacitor in my monitors power supply board (?).

I have a Samsung 930b LCD. There are 3 caps next to each other all Samxon GF(M) 820uF 25V. 1 of them is clearly bad.

All the research i've done says i need a low ESR replacement, but i dont know how to tell if they are low ESR or not. Went to radio shack and they dont specify on the boxes, didn't have anything close to what I needed anyway.

I've seen some people say you can replace it with 1000uF, but what about the Voltage rating, not sure if i need the 25V or i will be ok with a lower one.

I have a 1000uf 10v Hermei LE, would that be ok? How can i know if its low ESR, and where can i buy 1 online since radio shack is useless, free samples maybe?

 

have you gone to an electrical shop yet? take the board with you?

 

I recommend the Rubycon MBZ series, very low ESR and are among the best quality caps available. I would stick to the same uF rating (using out of spec uF would risk damaging other components dependent on the caps), you can get by with a higher voltage rating, but not lower. well, i ended going with 1000uf a more standard value. Voltage rating is important i found out you should not go lower then what the original was but you can go higher as much as you want.

I ended fixing the monitor but only after replacing EVERY cap on the board even the ones that looked ok. It took me a few tries to realize there are no shortcuts as i did not follow that rule at 1st.

Anyway, all is well now. If you run into a similar problem a great source for info in badcaps.net. Very helpful forum too with some good experts on the subject.
