Help -screen Won't Turn On.

Hello. I'm aware this sounds rather silly but I would like some help.
My computer needed to update so I restarted as usual only when it came back the screen hasn't come on. The lights are on and everything looks and sounds normal but it's not showing anything on the screen.
I'm aware that you'd like some info but I'm not a techy girl and without the screen I'm limited to what I can tell you. I've tried turning off and on again and I've unplugged and replugged everything in the back. I didn't build it so I can't take anything out from inside Thank you.

Is this a laptop or a desktop computer?

Just going by what you are saying and what you can see, the first thing I would try is hooking it up to another monitor if you have one available. If you have an HDMI port, you can even try hooking it up to a tv that has a HDMI as well.

It's a desktop and we've hooked it up to the tv and it's showing on half the screen scanning and repairing drive.

Showing up on half the screen just sounds like your screen resolution is set at different than what your tv is.

There should probably be a percentage for how far along the scan is. What is that and is it progressing?

As I am not proficient in hardware issues, I'm going to hope that someone who is, sees this thread and can help you. It sounds like a disk failure of some kind.

What version of Windows is this?

I think it's Windows 8 but can't remember if it's 8 or 8.1. It's at 10% and hasn't moved off 10% in the last 20 mins. Thank you

I believe this process can take a long time (several hours). Did you currently install any software that could have caused this?

If the scan passes ok - could the update hosed the video? Maybe uninstall the update or restore to before the update. That's IF the scan passes.

I updated Java and then a normal Windows update. It's still on 10% but the little circle is still moving so it's still going.

My bad. I missed the part where you did the Windows update. I would say that there was a bad update that installed. Depending on your settings, the video could have been caused by a bad driver update.

I'd still let the scan run and see if it continues. After that, I agree with Imandy Mann said.

Hello it finished this morning. It had to restart a few times but it all seems to be working without the need for a restore. Thank you for all your help xx

Glad to hear it all worked out. Sometimes that scan runs a continuous loop and you have to go through other measures to get out of it and fix things. I'm happy to hear that wasn't the case with yours.
