    Hi!
-I have an MPC laptop. My operating system is Windows XP. I had no problems until I purchased a new (generic) ac adaptor/charger. Now, whenever I boot up, I get a whole screen that says my CMOS settings, time and date are wrong. I go to setup & re-set them and things are fine - until I shut down and restart, then I have to re-set everything again. How do I get these settings to "stick"?

Sounds like the CMOS battery, but somebody else would have to walk you through the replacement, laptops aren't real service friendly.

For one night, keep the computer plugged in. (battery out but plugged into an outlet) When you cold boot are the CMOS settings okay? If so, then the battery needs replacing. If you still get the same error, then we need to look elsewhere for the problem.
