Hi I am at a loss as to what I need to get rid of to speed up my pc. I have run everything in the read and run first topic and am still having problems with loading at startup. I have attached my hijack this log file and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Nate

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

You problems are not malware. This kind of topic really belongs in the Software Forum. It is more than likely just all the stuff you are loading at startup. You should go thru your startups and decide what you need and what you don't need. For example: is Ewido a free trial or a paid version. If free, uninstall it and keep Windows Defender. If Ewido is a paid version, keep Ewido and uninstall Windows Defender. Removing one of this should have a noticeable effect.

Also, none of the below are required to load at startup. You can use HijackThis to fix all the below lines:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CamMonitor] c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\Unload\hpqcmon.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe

Now exit HJT and reboot and see if you notice an improvement.

Yes that speeded things up a bit but it is still slow. Normally I dont have all that running at startup because I had been using selective startup but I changed it because the instructions for hijack this said to run in normal startup. I am also having a problem with ccapp everytime I go to shut down. WinTasks 5 says it goes with Norton Antivirus 2003 which I am no longer running but I am unsure if it is also needed for current versions of Norton. I am starting to wonder if I should switch my antivirus software to one of the free ones that you recommend on this site and see if it is Norton Internet Security that is hogging all my resources. If you can help me great or if you think I should put this in the software forum I will do that.

    Thanks
    Nate

That is not a recommended long term way to run. Even Microsoft tells you that method is only to be used for debugging. You should uninstall software you do not need or want. And then use a program like Startup CPL to control other startups that you only want sometimes. Personally I only run what I will use and uninstall or permanently remove what I don't want.

Norton Internet Security is probably your largest issue. It almost alway is. As I said before, you are not having malware problems.

    Did you uninstall Ewido?

Yes I uninstalled ewido. So probly my best bet would be to uninstall norton and use a less resource hungry antivirus.

    Thanks

Yes that would be a good experiment. But first make sure you download (not install, only download) all the new programs. Then disconnect from the internet and uninstall ALL Norton/Symantect software. Then install your new antivirus, antispyware, and firewall. Then reconnect to the internet and get your updates for you new applications.

Then see how things are working.
