I'm a first time user- hope I do this right.
This machine is a P4 running XP Pro & SP2. I have followed all the instructions on the 'read & run me first' instructions. It has removed some of the problems but logs show still quite a lot of unwanted spyware etc. Computer also has Tclock installed and I can't get rid of that. Attached are the Bitdefender, Panda & HijackThis logs. Hope I've done this right and hope you can help.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

First look in Add/Remove programs for the below and uninstall if found:
    Maxifiles
    MySearch
    ToolBar888

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\defender26.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSN Explorer] C:\windows\system32\drivers\helpsys\msnexplorer.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [defender] C:\\defender26.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSN Explorer] C:\windows\system32\drivers\helpsys\msnexplorer.exe
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &MyToolBar Search - res://C:\Program Files\ToolBar888\MyToolBar.dll/MENUSEARCH.HTM
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZNxdm119YYAU

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    c:\program files\common files\Download <--- delete the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\ToolBar888 <--- delete the whole folder
C:\WINDOWS\TGVhbm5lIFNoYXc <--- delete the whole folder
C:\windows\system32\drivers\helpsys <--- delete the whole folder
    C:\defender25.exe
    C:\defender26.exe
    c:\windows\keyboard1.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nslookup.dll
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST)
    .

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Having a bit of trouble - after copying the bold text to the notepad and saving it, I closed it then double clicked it but how do I know if it merged with the registry? All it did was open the text document again.
I did save it as 'fixme.reg' and set to save as type 'all files'. Haven't gone any further - wait to hear back from you.
    Thanks heaps for your help.
(Maxifiles, MySearch & toolBar888 weren't in Add/Remove programs - already uninstalled them early on.)

This is an ammendment to my last reply. Have realized that the txt file did merge with the registry. Have followed all your instructions. Note: there was no 'C:/Program files\ToolBar888' entry in Explorer and there was no 'C:\Windows\TGVhbm5IIFNoYXc. Attached is my latest HJT log. At this stage everything seems to be running well except that I still have Tclock running. Can I get rid of that somehow? Do I now disable System Restore, reboot, and enable it again? Also which of the Spyware cleaning programs should I leave on the computer - should I uninstall any of them?
    Thanks for your help

As far as I know this is a valid program and that is why I did not ask you to remove it. I thought it was this:

    http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/tclock/

If you did not install this yourself or do not want it anymore, first look in Add/Remove programs for it and uninstall if found. If not found, use HijackThis to fix the below line:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TClock.exe] C:\Program Files\TClock\tclock_install.exe

Then reboot and delete the C:\Program Files\TClock folder!

You should keep everything your installed while running the READ ME.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:

How to Protect yourself from malware!
