I went to watch some video online this morning on a now obviously not so secure site, now I get pop ups left and right and site redirects when I use Windows Explorer. Firefox seems less affected.

    MGTools log attached.

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    * On the page that opens, scroll down to FCI
    * then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    * When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    * Click OK until you get back to Windows.

    * Next, run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    * At the lower right, click on the Config button
    * Then click the Misc tools button
    * Select Delete an NT Service
    * Copy/paste FCI into the box that opens, and press OK
    * If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    * Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.

    * Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    * Under Main choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser

    * Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser

    * Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Being unable to attach logs usually means you are attaching the same log that has already been attached.

    You still have TeaTImer running:
    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

    Did you do this:
It will not work if not saved as --> all files.

Try again and let me know if it is successful. Then if it is, run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

You are still having nasties show up.....

First you still need to disable Teatimer.

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\aipkfvgb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winscenter.exe

    Now:
This procedure explains how to get to the BitDefender Online Scan sites and how to setup and perform an online scan. It also explains how to obtain a log so you can attach it to a message. You must use Internet Explorer to run this scan and make sure your Sun Java version it current. Get Sun Java here: Sun Java Runtime Environment Before installing the current version, you should uninstall all previous versions first!!!!

****NOTE**** DO NOT INSTALL Bitdefender's Antivirus program. Make sure you follow the directions below and run the ONLINE SCANNER only.

To start the online scan go here: Bitdefender

    • Agree to the license and then select Scan.
      • DO NOT CHANGE THE OPTIONS TO SHOW ALL FILES SCANNED. That will make your logs huge and we don't need to see clean files.
    • Once Bitdefender completes the scan:
      • Click-on the Detected Problems tab. Then select Click here to export the scan report
      • When the window comes up to save the report, change the Save as type: box to Text (Tab Delimited) (*.txt)
      • And then in the File name box enter bdscan then click save. This will save a file named bdscan.txt in whatever folder you are currently in when you save the file (take notice of where you are at so you can find it later). This bdcan.txt file will actually contain HTML code that we can easily view later while reviewing your log. All we have to do is rename the file to bdscan.html. If you do not follow these step, you will have an incorrect log or worse a log summary which is useless to us.
    • Post the bdscan.txt file as an ATTACHMENT. See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post
    • If you run BitDefender Online scan and have previously run PandaActive scan, the below false detection may be seen in BitDefender:

      C:\WINDOWS\system32\ActiveScan\pskahk.dll
      Infected with: Generic.Malware.SIMDWYNVdprn.D9407F4E

    ok this is so odd!

I did everything you said and went to the BitDefender online scanner, ran said scanner and while it was scanning my AVG scanner had popups of threats which I moved to the vault.

The BD scanner completed and in the Detected Problems tab had "No virus found so far"

So did AVG help or hinder?

Hard to say...it is possible that it removed items as Bitdefender found them.

run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file so we can see if any more nasties have popped up.

    Sweet..your logs look clean. :)

    Do these two things:

Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you are not having any other malware issues, then:
