    Let's try it again.

    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :files
    C:\ProgramData\Norton
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton PC Checkup
    C:\Users\Denises\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*
    C:\windows\TEMP\*.*

    :reg
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\services\Norton PC Checkup Application Launcher]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\NortonOnlineBackupReminder]

    :Commands
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach this log file to your next message.

Ok, will do right now Tim, Denise

  4. outdoorgal

    outdoorgal Sergeant Major

Shouldn't that be "select all" before I hit "move it" Tim? I did hit paste, and it looks like it just copied what was already there, duplicated it, and then when I moved it, it ran, and ended up saying "moving failed?

App data moved and temp data moved, but not Norton PC checkup.

If it didn't get deleted, you can try manually deleting it. What issues remain? Are you still having problems with FireFox?

  7. outdoorgal

    outdoorgal Sergeant Major

No, none that I've found today. It was slow and jerky so I read up on it and turned off Proxy. Worked great after that.

I can't manually delete the Norton PC Checkup, I tried for the heck of it this a.m.:( It's insidious. I tried going into Task Manager to see what program is supposedly using it, and it was called cc something, I can't find it now (error says Folder in use).

Well you tried, and thank you for that Tim. That's weird, I keep turning off my touch pad and it comes back on, geez:(

Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.

    And you are welcome.

Oh, sorry Tim, didn't know there was anything left to try. Must have misunderstood. Ok, will do the mgclean.bat. Be back, Denise

Geesh, that just flashed the black window, and it was gone. MGTools is gone. So that's it right, didn't work so we just cleaned up MGtools? Ok, thanks again Tim, Denise

I tried that Donetao, back when I read your link on that Norton site. I'll look again, but I don't think they are listed there. The only place the files are listed are in C:drive, Program (x86).

Thanks so much, I am still looking but seems everything I find is something I tried, is that insidious or what. I hesitate to do a registry cleaner because they say that those clean off files you need to run programs. I wish I could just type in the file I want gone and have it deleted to the furthest part of the Universe:( Denise

I'll try it Don, but this Norton Pc Checkup is notorious, and it's widely known on the web that it is a HUGE problem to get rid of. It's like it guards itself:( I will try though, thank you and I'll let you know ok? Denise

It lists all the Norton files, but I can't figure out how to delete them Don. Is Everything meant so you can delete files? I thought maybe I could "export" the files to the Recycle bin but that isn't working either.

I thought so, but it didn't delete the files. I will read your instruction link though/picture, and try again Donetao, ty again:) Denise PS you guys must be sick of me.

Well, the program Everything works great, on BigFish game files which I needed to find and delete, but found the Norton, and there was the file name, but no date over in the 3rd column. thought that was weird, but I highlighted the files and nope, I didn't even get a menu to choose delete from, nothing Donetao:(

When I get rid of every trace of Norton I am going to tell the world that damn program is a virus:( I'll be back in a minute with a "snip" of it so you can see, Denise;) PS when I did a search Norton Pc Checkup was in the list as well, but it isn't just in the whole file list, you have to search it for it to come up. I'll show you that clip too:

I tried to find the Folder it is supposedly open in, but can't find it. Some File is associated with it but like I say, I can't find it, haven't a clue the name of it, although I think I saw it somewhere in my "travels" on the internet. Then, for some reason I couldn't locate it, it was cc, or cs something. I know, no help:(

but as you can see, after all I've done to remove it, it remains, Norton PC Checkup. I don't know that it is causing anything, but from what I hear about it I don't want it on my laptop. And also, there is some reason I am not allowed to remove the piece of $%&.

Thank you but you guys don't have a solution for me. I know you tried, very nice folks. But I won't ask anymore here, not about this. Here is something that might interest you to read, that I found, so I looked for this Toshiba Laptop Checkup, and it is invisible I guess, because the guy that got his solution, found it, removed it, and then that removed the Norton PC Checkup, so there is a solution. I just have to find it.

Thank you again;) Denise PS See Post #15 from 2011, so this is not a new thing, people trying to get rid of it but couldn't.

Looked for Toshiba Laptop Checkup yesterday, found an article on that relating to my issue, so yes, tried that too but it does not appear to be on my laptop. It could have another name, but I don't know.

Also, I'll attach a "snip" of a site I found that you can disable Common Client Job Manager (thats the link to the site) but it does not work for me, went through it twice.

Things are going ok, but it is hard when I know there are things on here that could cause the laptop to start doing the nutty things again. I feel like a Factory Restore is temporary at best because I have NOT found the original problem. I don't know what program I may have downloaded, I downloaded several before, like Glary Utilities, BigFishgames, Malwarebytes, I streamed movies from youtube (oldmovietime.com). I hope you understand what I am saying. I feel I have used a band-aid, but not healed the wound.

    Denise

PS The Common client Job Manager, is the name that comes up for the program that is "using" Norton Pc Checkup when I try to delete it Donetao, forgot to tell you that;)

Hmm, I have Malwarebytes, but this must be an additional program. I'll go look, thanks Don. I can't believe in all my "internet highway" travels I have not found one thing that takes Norton off my laptop, LOL!

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!! It worked, you did it Donetao!! OMG, I cannot believe it, Malwarebytes Assassin is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to go in and delete all the dll files first, then the folders one by one, back to the main folder Norton PC Checkup, and it DELETED, IT'S GONE!!!!!!!

Oh thanks so much, I feel so much better that it's gone!! I sware it is a virus, or it sure as heck acts like one, Denise

Omygosh No, good for you Donetao, you stuck with me!! I so appreciate it. I will come back and see if I can help around here. I know a few things, not a lot, but this one I can share for sure!!

    See you soon, Denise;)
