I have a portable hard drive that i left plugged into the usb port during boot up and windows vista went ahead and did a scan disk on it. Ever since then i cant access the drive and i dont know how to fix it. I dont really care about the data on the drive if i can recover it that would be nice but i just want to be able to access my portable drive so i can backup my current systems hard drive cause its going to fail. Tyvm seagate you lost my business having a hard drive fail after 6 months is stupid :(

    Please do the following:

    1. Plug the drive in and power it on (if necessary)
    2. Wait 1 minute for the drive to connect properly.
    3. Right-click on "My computer" and choose "manage". Authenticate if necessary.
    4. Look in the left hand column for "disk management". Double click on this
    5. Look down the list in the centre for the hard drive. Please post a screenshot of the list if the drive is there but showing as RAW or unallocated.
    6. If the drive is not in disk management, click on "device manager" on the left of the screen above "disk management".
    7. Look for any ?s or !s in the list and post a screenshot if there are any.
