help wit video card on o/s xp

hello all
ive juss joined and am pretty new here..so here goes...
i gotta nvidia geforce5600ultra video card for my comp(obviously). i have tried installin but every time i install my comp boots up takes me to windows then the screen goes black..after a minute or 2, it takes me to another screen. this screen tells me that nv4_disp has gone into an infinite loop.. (and me being a novice at this kinda thing am like WTF!!)
so i need some help here if any 1 is so kind.....

i have an amd k duron
1.3 ggz
40 gig hard drive
and have xp as my o/s

i would apreciate if someone could help me with a tip or 2.

I have no idea how many times ive posted this link but ... Use This app. If you have ATI card before remove all ATI video display drivers...same process with nvidia display drivers. Afterwards install the new batch of drivers . Good luck!

 

so how would i kno if i have ati or not?

What was your old video card? The company MFG ussaly puts a sticker on the heatsink/fan or some "mark" stamp on the card. If its ati when running the program go to ati display drivers and remove them; if its nvidia card go to the nvidia and remove them. I wasn't bashing you for not knowing about DC3.3, i was just stating that I needed a copy/paste instead of looking for it tons of times.

 

next time you boot, press F8, enter safe mode
remove your old drivers, then install again(you may want to try a different driver set), then reboot, and see what happens.

 

ok thnx for ur help guys i got it (vidcard) installed..one more thing tho b4 when i played a game i had 30-40 fps, now i only have 20-25 fps. do any of u kno how to fix that? i kno it has to do wit my refresh rate. my refresh rate goes from 60-240 but i cant install no more than 100 hertz or else my screen goes black & posts a box sayin information: out of scan range. is there any other way to get a higher fps settin on my particular cpu???

25fps with that card? somthings wrong on your pc. How much memory you have installed?Do you know how to fiddle with your bios? If so make sure AGP aperture is set to 64mb; and the main VGA display is AGP.

 

i have 512 ram and a 40 gig harddrive.
i will try messing with the bios
