Game crashes to desktop during combat scenes. Why?? I click on desktop Witcher icon and game resumes for 5 minutes, crash, resume etc.Only during combat. Had no problems with any other recent games.

Tech support on this always goes the same route:

1: Are all your dirvers up to date? http://www.majorgeeks.com/SlimDrivers_d6737.html
2: Is the game up to date? Should be 1.5: http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/1.5_patch

If those do not work, you might need th find game forums for the game. I've never heard of it so figuring out a crash on a single program is difficult but either way you will get the same advice from anyone knowledgeable as I gave you first and foremost.

    Let me know!

    Add to MA's comments:

It's a laptop, heat is a big issue.

It's an ASUS, there are some ASUS drivers that can cause BSOD's and other problems, uninstall any ASUS motherboard utilities, check for AODDriver2.sys and rename it to AODDriver2.BAD if you can't find the uninstaller.

Check the date on asacpi.sys, if it's 2005, you must update it to a later version. Check the ASUS support downloads page for your model, look through the Utilities section for ATK0110 driver and download/install it and check the date again.

    More general items:
DirectX 9.0C needs to be installed for full compatibility with older games.
Uninstall any graphics stuff like 3D drivers, CCC etc. that you can - stick to bare graphics drivers if at all possible.

    Here :)

    abyerley:
The original Witcher was made for XP, not for 7. It has some serious issues with 7, in fact. I was able to play it on my own ASUS laptop though, so if nothing works, let me know, I'll give you a list of things I need to know, and we'll see what we can do. Try all the advice you've been given by MA and satrow first though, since it's god solid advice. Dx9 and game updates are both vital to making The Witcher run properly in 7.
