i'm one of these unfortunate people who don't have a decent amount of money to spend on top of the range parts, so recently i bought myself a 512mb graphics card (BFG 7600 GS OC 512mb HDTv DDR2 AGP) and a new mobo(AsRock 939-DualVSTA). I've had it all plugged together for about 4 days now and everytime i try to install the graphics drivers the computer crashes .Tried contacting AsRock and they haven't emailed back(sent about 4 emails asking when they'd get back to me because it was urgent). I've updated the bios updated the AGP controller drivers, changed the primary GFX in the bios from PCI-e to AGP (the mobo is pci-e and agp compatible) still no luck, tried other graphics cards, don't work either, if any of you guys have any suggestions as to how to get this pile of sh*t working i'd be very greatful and if you do help i promise to only buy top of the range parts from now on :)

Only one that should be obvious, but maybe you missed it? Did you update only the AGP driver for the board or did you update everything, in other words for a VIA chipset, you want the 4in1 drivers. Also, DirectX must be current. Are you using the latest Nvidia Forceware drivers and not a manufacturer supplied driver?

If so, we must consider bad hardware as a possibility. Will another video card install and run on this board because that would be my next test, a faulty board or video card.

Glad it worked out, I was afraid, being on a budget, you might have gotten a bad board.

lol me 2, i'm hoping to update my whole comp soon get a nice new pci-e mobo (am2) and a nice new x2 processor.

    I was considering getting a fx62 x2 and a sapphire x1900xt with toxic cooling and a sapphire mobo with 2 pci-e x16 and 2 pci-e x1 slots what do you think??

Do you by change know anything about setting up HDMI on a pc?? my colours seem a lil screwy:S

AMD is about to release new chips. Intel whooped their butts finally. My advice? Normally I say buy when ready, but I suspect since Intel priced their newest chip just below AMD's fastest chip coupled with AMD releasing new chips and I expect some major price drops before Xmas, maybe even Thanksgiving on their (now older) chips which will run anything you have for years to come.

That said, be aware that quad core chips are coming, maybe in spring? Once that happens, all other chips will be antiques IMHO. Of course, most of this is speculation, but I can assure you these 3 things (AMD's new chips, Intel wooping AMD and quad core technology) are gigantic leaps in the chip industry that we have not seen for years, so a guy on a budget should reap the rewards soon enough.

FYI, look into the Nforce boards, you might find a Nforce board and chip combo. Good boards, good drivers, affordably priced.

well my budget is finally being lifted, just got a new job which has rather nice pay so right now i'm splashing out lol, ordered nintendo wii, ps3 and spent bout 1.5k on pc stuff in the last 2 months, that only keyboard, mouse, joystick few components :D and just got a psp aswell, so finally for once i won't have to look in the 'special offers' section for parts that are older than my parents

Cheers for the info mate thanks for the help
