Help with a limewire virus

Hi, I have thoroughly read the read & run, and cleaning procedures. I haven't yet been able to follow them as describe below. As soon as I can I will.

This is my son's machine which is currently not booting (stuck at Windows XP screen with progress bar.)

Original symptoms, explorer not starting. This occurred following some limewire activity. I was able to start explorer, but when I tried to do anything it disappeared like whack a mole on acid. Removed limewire through the task manager.

Then: Ran sfc /scannow and put msconfig into diagnostics mode. Currently, now, it doesn't start in regular or safe mode.

In the interim I will try and get in through UBCD. Any advice would be appreciated.

As soon as I am in I will proceed with the read and run/cleaning posts..
