I stripped my Niece's old Dell 600m laptop to change the cooling fan.
When I pried off the Central Control Cover there was a loose wire which
leads back to the toggle volume switch for the speakers. It is a single wire
ending in a ring connector and I did not have to undo any screws.

The dell service manual doesn't have wiring diagrams and I can't find
schematics on line. Anyone know where it connects?

(The machine is 5 years old , it isn't worth paying for dell tech support,
as I am in Canada they don't offer online chat. It will be used as a spare
or given to charity so this isn't a deal breaker, it just offends my sense of
    aesthetics).

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you. The wire is actually on the other end of the machine on the volume button above the function keys. It is a single lead and sheathed green so I'm 99 % certain it's just a ground. I'll find a home for it :)

It is a ground but I'll bet you can find a ring terminal with a screw in it that is now missing a wire.
