help with dlls

I need to edit and make few changes on a dll. Obviousely, I'd need to "de-compile" the dll, edit the code and re-compile it again. What kind of "de-compiler" I need to use? Sorry if the definitions are not correct, I'm not a programmer, but trying hard...

What exactly are you trying to do? You could try using a resource editor like ResHacker if you're only making small changes, but if you're making any major alterations you might consider writing it all over again from scratch.

You can get decompilers, but they will usually dissassemble the dlls into another language, most likely assembly (MASM probably) since that is easiest to achieve. You coould try somthing like this:

I tried both but didnt get something that I could read. what i would need is to decompile the dll and read the code. One of the probs is that i dont know in which langiage it is programed.

Generally, this is a no no.. Lots of people compile and use obfuscators to "blur" the code so you can't decompile it and read it. Decompiling a dll without permission is most often illegal and frowned upon.

You are right, after I wrote this post I said to myself, gee this sounds like a intellectual property theft. So I'll not pursue it anylonger. In fact the prob is that in order to get an improvement on this dll by its author it can take up to 6 months, and since the change I meant to bring its relatively small, I thought of doing it myself. Bad idea, agree.

what if you could wrap your function around the dll or vice versa..i.e. take the output that it produces and modify it accordingly?
