help with dvi cables

ok i was wondering what kind of dvi cables would i need or is the dvi convertors that comes with the video card im getting work, i tried using a dvi to vga adapter for my moniter recently and it didnt work, im worried that i might have the same problem with my new video card

the connections my moniter has its a gateway 700g 17 inch moniter
