Help with Home search assistent spyware

My PC is infected. The possible culprit is Home search assistent and possibly about:blank. I have followed ALL steps in the "read me first" thread, online scans and optional scans and programs included. I would like to post a hijackthis log.

PC is running: w2000, pentium 3, 1000 mhz, 130000kb ram.

Symptoms: popups, porn sites in favorites, home search assistent in add\remove program list. Slow loading, slow internet speed slow everything.

I am having some difficulty turning off the RPC. It dose not give me the option when I right click the service. I can see what you are talking about but do not have access for some reason.

 

I see the buttons but they are not available.

I get the error "Service 'Remote procedure call' was not found in the registry make sure that you entered the shortname of the service., vbExcalamation.

 

It will not take RPC. I do not know how to type the character that you said to also try and I cant seem to copy and paste them either.

I am still having difficulty with the RPC! When I right click the RPC Helper in the services.msc menu, and click properties the properties menu will not appear! Further the first time that I click the properties from the dropdown I get error "Configuration Manager: A General internal error occured"! I have the option to click Start from the drop down. If I do I get Error " could not start RPC Helper Service on the local computer. Error 2: the system could not find the file specified".

When I try to exit the services.msc menu I get error "Close all properties pages before closing sevices".

If I try to delete the NT service I get message "Remote Procedure Call (rpc) Helper was not found in the registry".

I am not really sure if these are related but I have some new symptoms. I cannot send outgoing mail from Oulook (I can recieve though). It just freezes when I hit send. Also I can no longer access the Add/Remove programs menu. When I try to open the menu a window opes with the garbled text and no buttons.

I have attached another HJT Log after I tried to follow your instructions. What do you think? Do I Have bigger issues here than the origional spyware complaint?
