    Hi Kelli3222,
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You have two internet security programs on your computer. I expect this is the problem. You MUST choose one of them and COMPLETELY uninstall the other. One is the CA Internet Security Suite and the other is the one from Symantec.

ALSO, you have Viewpoint Media Player in your add/remove programs and you have Teatimer running which is part of Spybot S&D.

In order to go forward, you must start by de-activating Teatimer or it will simply block any changes you attempt to make.

So ... please do the following:

    1) To begin with, please disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This can be done two ways.
    First:
    • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
    • If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
    • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
or Second, For Either Version :
    • Open Spybot S&D
    • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
    • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
    • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
    • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
    • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
    • OK any prompts.
    • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot

    2) Next go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below:

    - Viewpoint Media Player
    - Viewpoint Manager Service

    3) Please decide if you would like to uninstall Norton/Symantec or CA Internet Security Suite.

If you want to uninstall the CA Security Suite, you should be able to find the program in add/remove programs. Disable anything to do with the program that is running. Then go to add/remove programs and remove it. You may need to reboot after this.

If you want to uninstall the Symantec/Norton security software, please disable any programs you have running that are from this company. Then do the following two steps:

Go to Removing Files from Norton Antivirus Quarantine. If you have any files in quarantine, remove them using this tool.

After you complete this, run the Norton Removal Tool & Instructins from Symantec
Read the warning associated with it to see if it is a concern for your computer. If so, back up the data as they request.

After you complete the above, reboot your computer.

Let me know how this went!!

When you complete the above instructions, I would like to hear back from you before I advise you how to continue. For one thing, you have some things in your trusted zone that look like things it would be better to get rid of.

    Hi kelli3222,

I removed your inline HJT log, because we don't work with inline logs. People often have live links in their logs which can cause other users to end up clicking on malware sites, so we prefer to have them open as txt files. Since you only removed your extra antivirus, your second log will be pretty much the same as your first one anyway.

Please go go to the Tools menu item at the top of Intenet Explorer and click on it. Then click on Internet Options. Choose the tab called Security. Then click on the Trusted Sites (green circle with a white checkmark) button. Then click on the Sites button. See if there are sites listed in there. If so, look at them to see what they are. There may be one which is an IP address. If you don't know why this entry is in there, copy the IP number and enter it at this website: www.samspade.org
This will tell you who it belongs to and I expect will give you the information you need to decide if it should be in there or not. Any which don't have to be in there (there are very few sites which need to be in your trusted zone) need to be removed.

Also, check your Norton Firewall to see if there are trusted sites enabled there as well. If so, can some of them be removed?

After you do the above, reboot your computer and go to the trusted site for Internet Explorer as you did above and see if they are still gone.

Let me know how this goes. How is your computer doing since you removed the extra security suite?

Please perform the normal required first steps that should be performed before posting in the malware forum. These are given below. After doing this Abri will be able to tell you if you are having malware problems or not. If not, you will be sent to another forum.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

Please follow the instructions that I already gave to you. They did not ask for a HijackThis log nor a log from Deckard Scanner (which is also way out of date). You need to run the below and ONLY attach the logs requested in it.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

An FYI: the below logs are what is requested.
    • SASlog.txt log from SuperAntiSpyware.
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
    • ComboFix.txt (normally C:\ComboFix.txt)
    • MGlogs.zip - normally it is C:\MGlogs.zip - only attach this log from MGtools.exe DO NOT attach any logs seen in the MGtools folder.

    Hi kelli3222,

We can only judge whether or not you have malware on the basis of the information you provide us. At this point, I don't see any signs of malware and suggest you start a thread in the Software Forum and see if they can help you find out why your computer is not shutting down.

    Thanks.
