Help with improving my graphic/video!!!

Ok...I'm pretty good with troubleshooting computers, but...video/graphics is my weak spot!! That being said...I was hoping somebody would walk me through possible improving the performance of my video card!!

So anyway...here we go!!

The reason I'm getting the idea that I'm not getting full performance....I have broadband internet, and I can't get smooth, non-blotchy, streaming video for the life of me, when i'm using my launchcast, or any kind of video streaming online!! I have a friend that has a dinasour of a computer w/only 8mb of onboard video and 128mb of ram...and he has the same interent as me, but...he can play his launchcast on FULL SCREEN mode and it is sweet, no problems!! In fact...my mother-in-laws dial-up does better with launchcast, sometimes!!

I'll list my system specs below, but...someone suggested before that I need to update my codec's for video!! I've heard of it, but I'm not firmiliar with codec at all!! I have downloaded and installed the latest driver for EVERYTHING!!

System Specs...

Abit KV7-V Mobo
Athlon XP 3000 400mb fsb
768mb DDR400 ram
Chaintech Volari V3 video card with XGI Volari V3 graphics engine, 128mb DDR sdram, 4x/8x compatible
SBC DSL internet...approx. 325 down and 285 up

Also I did a thread awhile back but didn't follow up on it (sorry ) but...my board supports 8x agp but when I go into the graphics utility...it never shows more than 4x!!

Let me know if I have left anything out here!! I'm in the mist of a handfull of projects, so bear with me please!!!!!

Try downloading rivatuner http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/ and use it to change your agp from 4x to 8x.

What program do you use for playing video? You could try using a different program. http://www.divx-digest.com/software/media_player_classic.html is a good one.

And can you ctrl+alt+dlt and tell me how many processes are running?

 

The Rivatuner website says it is for nVidia and ATI only!! Mine is an XGI Volari V3 graphics engine from Chaintech!! I tried it anyway, but...It wouldn't give me any option except to change the agp x's and whe I do that and hit apply...it freezes...I tried it a couple times and the same thing!!

As far as processes running...

Did you want the ones that are actually using the cpu..or just simply how many are listed??

Just tell me if you have any suspicious processes running that aren't part of windows. You could have spyware slowing down your PC.

Also you could do a search for a similar program to rivatuner that supports your gfx card.

this is a chipset/bios/video driver issue, I know sometimes either switching fastwrites on or off fixes it. Maybe sideband addressing??? Although it is different for each card. Make sure your board AND your card support them though, that may be the issue that your board just doesn't want to play nice with your video card. I have no experience what-so-ever with your card, I'm sure you know to make sure everything is updated with the latest drivers and bios. I would say toy with the gart settings (in display properties and in mobo bios) untill the issue is resolved. Of course, make sure you have a descent BIOS guide handy as I wouldn't just go flipping switches blindly or you'll end up in a worse situation than you are in.

 

This problem really sounds like more of a driver/software problem than 4/8x AGP problem. Also, rivatuner will not help with this either.

Have you tried calling tech support? Or maybe they have some forums on their website that would be helpful.

If anybody comes up with anything else though...I will continue to watch this thread for a couple of days!!
