    Hi All,

I was wondering if any of you could help? My step-daughter spilled OJ on her keyboard about a week ago - didn't clean it up and told us about it the next morning. Sure enough, the keyboard was fried and doesn't work. Anyway, we have a few extra keyboards lying around which do work (tested them on other computers) but when we tried them on her's, they won't. When you go into device manager, to uninstall the USB keyboard driver of the old keyboard, it will not uninstall. We've run diagnostics on Microsoft's support website and it says it has downloaded the driver but it's still not fixing it. :banghead

Anyone have any ideas as to what to do? Is there any possible work-around you can think of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Delph :)

Does the computer have a PS2 type (round) keyboard port and did you try a PS2 keyboard?

    1. Be sure the PC is connected to the Internet when you plug in the USB keyboard. It may need to download drivers for it. A USB keyboard may be plugged in either when the PC is off or on.

    2. Will the USB keyboard let you enter the BIOS setup (usually "F2" on a Dell)? If yes, it points to a driver issue with Windows.

    3. As mdonah asked, do you have a green round PS/2 keyboard port on the back and a matching keyboard? NOTE: A PS/2 keyboard must be connected with the PC turned off. It will not load/work properly if the PC is turned on when it's plugged in for the first time.

Since liquid didn't get into the PC itself, I doubt the computer has physical damage.

But when the USB keyboard frazzed, it could have fried the USB port on the computer. Maybe she should try one of the other USB keyboards in another port.

Hi everyone and thanks so much for the replies. Apologies for the delay in writing back - haven't had time to try these suggestions yet but will give them a go once I'm back home later today. I'll report back with the results shortly - and thank you again! :)
