I am looking to turn a laptop HD into an external drive. The drive is 2 3/4" wide by 3 3/4" long. However, there is a metal extension that extends beyond the connection about another 1" or so.

My specific question relates to the kit size - are they universal? What size conversion kit would I need for a drive that size? I should have recorded the make/model of the drive when I removed it (I put it back in). The laptop that contains the drive is a Compaq Presario R3000.

    Thanks for any help.
