I am getting desperate. I am having an issue with limewire, it doesnt want to close. I have looked that up and found lots of others with that issue too, BUT they are not able to open the task manager, and I AM. Virus scanning found nothing. The only thing thats happening is the limewire opening by it's self, and sometimes a error window. I've tried mcafee's website, I've tried something called brute force uninstaller, but nothing seems to work. I have no clue what to do, where to go, or how im ever going to go to sleep lol it's been 9 hours

I have uninstalled limewire for now, because its so annoying.

Hi olgakay!
Welcome to Major Geeks!

The only way for us to help you is to be able to look at what's going on inside your computer, and the only way we can do that is to have you post the logs of certain scans that give us that information. Please go through the instructions at the following link and post the requested logs back. Be sure to follow the instructions for your operating system.

NEW READ & RUN ME FIRST WITH MG TOOLS

Thanks.

I hope I have done everything right. I followed all the instructions from the link you posted for me. The only thing that did not work was a log from AVG, I followed what it said to click and unclick all that, but it didnt make a log :( I even went back to see if I had done it exactly the way it says to, and it was set up right. :confused

Hi olgakay!

Start with this please:

1) Please scan the following file(s) at either jotti or VirusTotal and let me know the results. It may or may not allow you to scan the second one, because it has no file type, but it is not a folder. If you've never done this before, when you click on the link, it will take you to a website with a small window where you can browse to each of these files (one at a time) and click on them, then click on the submit button.

2) Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall:

- J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
- J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
- Java(TM) 6 Update 2
- Sunbelt Counterspy
<-- we're finished with this

3) Please check if any of these folders are still in Windows Explorer. If so, please delete them.

C:\Documents and Settings\Christina_\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software

4) Now REBOOT your computer!

5) After you reboot, please install Java Runtime Environment vs. 6.3

6) If you do not use Windows Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger!!) I would like you to run Disable/Remove Windows Messenger

7) Now scan with HijackThis and check the boxes for the following entries. They may or may not be there. If they are, check them, make sure all your browser windows including this one are closed and then click on FIX:
t Sans Serif]( Make sure ALL browser windows are closed when you click FIX )
After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

8) And now, I need a new set of MGlogs.zip

edit: I didn't have anything called sunbelt counterspy or any of these:
C:\Documents and Settings\Christina_\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software

But I did have one called SUN under the (C:\Documents and Settings\Christina_\Application Data\Sun)

Should I have deleted the SUN folder? thanks :)

Hi olgakay!
Sorry! I got sick!

No, don't delete Sun. It belongs to Java.

Please locate the file I had you scan called C:\9785.bat and delete it.
If you haven't run the scans Bj requested, please just rerun the MGTools and post that log here.

Your computer is almost clean. We need to look at one more thing after you post your new set of logs. The problem you've been having may not be related to malware, as some people are having problems with Limewire. One advice is to go not to BitTorrent software but to UTorrent. That's something you can get more information about in the Software Forum.

Thanks.
