    Hi,

I am having problems with redirecting in Mozilla Firefox. I haven't downloaded anything except Norton, Constant Guard and System Mechanic lately.
    OS is Windows XP.

    Thanx!

Are you only getting re-directs with FireFox?

    Tim,

I usually don't use any other browser; however I did test Internet Explorer, and it seems to be fine. It looks like Firefox is the only browser constantly redirecting me.

    Thanx!

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. So do the below to save bookmarks:

    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.

Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need to exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:

    C:\Documents and Settings\UserAccount\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Is FireFox working okay now?

    Tim,

I don't see the options you suggest. I only see "organize" when I select show all bookmarks, but it it doesn't have a file option. I see an import and backup option. I chose that and export bookmarks to html. I saved that to the desktop. Is that ok?

    Thanx~

Please download ComboFix to your desktop. Turn off any AV software you have before you run it. Attach the log when
finished. Do not do anything while it is running or it may stall the program.

Are you still being re-directed? If so, Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Attach both of these logs into your next reply.

You never completed the removal of FireFox back in message #5. You neglected to remove these folders:
    C:\Documents and Settings\UserAccount\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

I'll do it again, but I did remove both of those, unless there are many copies.

I don't know what you mean. I did it again and still have the problem. Maybe I am missing something. This time I didn't even see the program files folder.with Mozilla in it. When I uninstall do you want me to check the box that says remove settings?

    Tim,

I think I finally removed Firefox, but I had to do a lot more than the Revo uninstaller. Thanks for your help!

    Best~

    You're most welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
