help with networking problem

i have two computers networked with a crossover cable it was working fine but now the computer i use is telling me to update the driver for the nwc but when i do it tells me to do it agin and now with my computer shut off i see that the lights are on the network card when it sis not do that befor can someone help with that

 

bump does anyone know what i should do? oh yea one of them is a gateway2000 E-3000 166mhz 34mb ram 2mb video win98se and the other is a compaq deskpro 500mhz 64mb ram 16mb video also running win98se. and please dont tell me to just upgrade to a new computers because i only live on $550 a month because i am unable to work and i am allways broke by the 10th of the month because of all the damn bills so dont even think about saying it unless you are paying lol
