    First of all, I ordered most of the rest of my new computer parts from Newegg and got it all put together last week. It's running wonderfully, except that the RAM (DDR3) is at 1333, while it's supposed to be able to run at 1600 speed.

    List of parts ordered (not all were the most recent order):

    Case (Antec Twelve Hundred)

    Power Supply (CORSAIR HX Series 1000W)

    Motherboard (ASUS P6X58D Premium)

    CPU (Intel Core i7-980X)

    RAM (CORSAIR Vengeance 12GB DDR3 1600)

    Graphics Card (Gigabyte Factory OC GTX 470)

    Sound Card (HT Omega Claro)

    Optical Drive (Sony Blu-Ray burner)

    Internal Card Reader (Koutech Multi-Format Card Reader)

    I also have 3 500GB hard drives (WD and Seagate), running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

    Either way, the question I have is how do I get the RAM to 1600 speed in the BIOS settings? What do I adjust exactly, and to what? I would've put this in the OC forum, but since I'm not actually breaking the listed speed of the RAM, I don't consider this OCing.

    Overclocking is beyond me. I did just do a quick look around and found this thread (which is older and may be a different revision of the board as it caps out at 12GB where your specs say 24gb) but it seems to indicate that one module per channel may work for 1600 without any Bios setting changes.

    Which BIOS version are you using?

    Hi sach2, thanks for the reply.

    As I said, it's not technically overclocking, since this RAM is specced to run at 1600 speed.

    I only have 1 module per channel (3 modules, 4GB each), have set a BIOS setting to tell it the RAM is 1600 (it has a list including 1333, 1066, etc.), does no good. I've also tried pressing the MemOK button on the board (supposed to automatically configure the RAM settings or whatever), no dice.

    The thread you linked to mentions setting individual timings manually... not EXACTLY sure how I'd go about doing that (would I fry my RAM or board if I mess up?), or what numbers to put where, etc.

    Current BIOS version is AMI build 1301, date 11/16/2010.

    Everest lists the "Extreme Memory Profile" as DDR3-1600 @ 800 MHz, 1.5V, and the following two things:

    @800 MHz, 9-9-9-24 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 41-128-2-6-12-6-6 (RC-RFC-CR-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)

    @533 MHz, 6-6-6-16 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 27-86-2-4-8-4-4 (RC-RFC-CR-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)

    So, I'm assuming I should set all manual values to reflect the 800 MHz settings Everest lists?

    Hi,

    Sorry, I realized how elementary my advice was once I posted. This is really beyond me. A quick look at the BIOS updates seemed to indicate the option of telling the speed of the RAM was an update and only wanted to check that you had that setting available in BIOS.

    Let's wait and see what the real hardware tech guys have to say. I'll be reading and trying not to interfere.

    Haha, it's okay. If it makes you feel any better, I had the RAM in the WRONG 3 slots to start with and wondered why the board wouldn't post.:-D Thankfully, this motherboard's so crazy chock full of features, the RAM fault LED was lit so I immediately isolated the problem.

    Anyway, yeah there's so many settings in this BIOS I could probably spend an hour changing everything in it. That's why I'm trying to get specific guidance, as I feel lost in a metropolis.:major

    Yeah, as it says on the website, and the box of ram, and possibly the ram itself too, those are the recommended settings for that RAM.

    If it's anything like CPU's then it may be throttling due to it being set-up with the wrong settings.

    Try those and check the ram speed using CPU-Z.

    In the bios, in the AI Tweaker menu, there's a section for memory timings. They are all currently set to AUTO. You need to set one of them (I'm not sure which one it is because I don't have the BIOS screen in front of me) to use the Advanced or Extreme memory profile contained within the RAM itself.
