Have a 3TB hard drive with a ton of family photos that I do not want to lose. Board burned up, I bought a replacement donor board and I know to swap the EEPROM chip to make it work. My question is in regards to that specific process.

I've watched a few tutorials and the switch seems pretty straight forward, but they never talk about materials.

Do I need a specific type of flux or solder for electronics, are the certain brands that anyone would recommend, and can anyone reccommend the max temp for a heat gun if needed so that I can heat up the solder without destroying the chip?

Thank you so much, yeah I was nervous about the heat gun, glad someone talked me out of it. Any tips on what kind of solder to use for this, I'm hesitant to us rosin core solder for something this fine, I might just go for the seperated flux and solder for simplicity and better control.

Hand soldering a chip to a PCB requires a fair amount of soldering knowledge and skill. Not to mention a steady hand.
There are different types of solders and fluxes for hand soldering electronic components to a PCB. It's best to obtain the most suitable solder and/or flux for the specific job from a specialist electronics retailer. Also, using a soldering iron that provides too much heat can damage components. And continued heating by an iron that's not hot enough can detach the PCB tracks (traces).
If you don't have experience doing this, ask an experienced electronics technician.
