    Hi guys,
Just after a little bit of advice here....I have 2 sticks of 1gb memory and 2 sticks of 512mb memory. My question is this...Am I better of putting 1 1/2 gig in each bank or would I be better off putting the 2 gb sticks in the first bank and the 2 512mb sticks in the second bank. All the memory is matched and by Kingston.
    Cheers guys

Put the two 1GB in the first bank, and the two 512MB in the second.

    Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I initially put 1 1/2 gb in each bank and when the boot up screen came on it stated the computer was running the memory in "Dual channel". After changing the sticks and putting 2gb in the first bank and the 512's in the second the computer is now running "Single channel". There is no option in the bios to change this. Am I right in thinking it SHOULD be running dual channel?
    Thanks

Dual Channel is the way to go.

What Fred said. Dual channel rocks.

That established, define "bank"...? You probably have the four memory slots grouped together two close to each other, a gap, and then the other two, right? That's not the two banks. Picture that the slots are numbered, one through four. The first bank is slot one and three. The second bank is slot two and four. A bit counter-intuitive, but that's the way they work.

Smart computers color code them. Sneaky back-stabbing computers don't, and then things get confused. :)

Probably will be 1GB 512MB 1GB 512MB. Run it however you get dual channel.

Agreed. Whatever gets you to that dual channel is the way to go. Some MBs group their slots/banks together and others don't, but in the end getting that dual channel mode is what you want to see. Love the fact that you are using Kingston--that's my day job. :drool

It worked both ways but I just wanted to make sure it was installed correctly. I now have it running dual channel:)
