    I brought this up in someone else's thread, but now I have details. Here's the story:

    My girlfriend bought an Acer laptop with Vista on it (model AS5100-3372). I called Acer to get a price for another gig of ram to add to it and they said it was $129.00. I then went to Crucial's sight and ran the auto-deletect to see they're price. The had 1 gig (2 of the following) for $62.00! These are the specs. but I'm not sure what they all mean: SO-DIMM DDRII533 HYS64T64020HDL-3.7-A LF (0.11u)

    Here's the real problem. I've tried Everest to identify our current Ram but nothing appears in the Ram section (motherboard/SBD). All other features seem to show up with Everest but I'm not sure how I can identify the Ram stats. I'm just concerned that this new Ram might slow down the existing Ram.

    Any ideas?

    With 'Everest' - do you get any reading when you go via 'Computer/Overclock/SPD Memory Modules'?

    Thanks Red Gem. I believe that space was empty too but I'll check it again when I get home from work in an hour or so.

    Have you tried looking at the memory? Quite often it has a sticker on it describing the brand, model, speed and capacity.

    Also your system comes standard with 1GB PC2-4200 DDR2-533 RAM. I don't know if that's one dim or two. I would recommend opening it up and seeing how many slots are being used. Most of their systems comes specced with 2 chips of memory and not one. And most systems only have 2 slots. So you'll likely have to order 2 1GB chips to get 2GB of ram in your system.

    Try Everest.

    Motherboard-->Motherboard
    and Motherboard-->SPD
    This should help you. ;) Bazza

    I tried looking there, but there is no SPD shown under comp/overclock.

    @ Sheesh I didn't open it up but the Acer rep said it's 2 sticks of 512 and they are proprietary and the number he gave me was KN.51202.021 Memory IFX. Also, would the Ram from you linked from NewEgg be ok to add since it's 2 sticks of 1gig and there are currently 2 sticks of 512?

    @ Bazza I've tried Everest, that's the issue in my initial post.

    Re: Identifying the memory

    If it was the Free Everest, its not fully Vista compatible ( not Vista issue but one of Lavasys discontinuing the Free Version, way before Vista went RTM ), you could try to right click the Everest Icon and choose run as Admin, may work, but for that screenshot of mine I was using the latest trial of Everest Ultimate at that time.

    Or Belarc and this one will work http://www.majorgeeks.com/SIW_System_Info_d4387.html

    Great news, running as Admin worked!

    One last question:

    It looks to me like this Ram is faster and a good price (which is great) http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=799C247FA5CA7304

    This is compared to the existing ram in this report I've attached. Would this work to upgrade the laptop to 2 gig? Would mixing these brands cause issues?

    Thanks guys
