help with reinstall of xp

I gave up on trying to remove too many spyware programs to list and started to reinstall windows xp. Only problem is I left it in safe mode and it is stuck in a never ending loop of telling me "windows xp cannot run under safemode. Setup will restart now."

Any suggestions on how to switch out of safe-mode in the middle of an install?

Here are PC specs:
Laptop Dell Inspiron 1150
Pentium IV 2.68ghz
256mb ram, 40 gb hd

 

When you turn the pc on keep pressing F8 after the boot screen and a list of options will appear allowing you to select safe mode, safe mode with networking etc. On that list should be the option to start up in normal windows, might just say windows xp, select that.

Unfortunately I am stuck in a loop. Any selection from the f8 menu is interrupted by the setup which brings me right back to the safe mode start up. Any other suggestions?

 

Did you format the hard drive before installing windows xp? When you say you left it in safemode, what do you mean, you went into safe halfway through the installation for some reason and now you can't get out of it? How far through the installation did it get before getting in the loop?

 

Safe mode is checked off in msconfig. Started the reinstall booting from the CD. It has reinstalled windows, but it is trying to restart to finish the install and it is going right to safe mode.

 

Im haveing a prob as well. Im installing xp home. and It does the format and installs but never finishes the install it just goes bacl to the setup page and keeps formating then installing then formatting , then installing, etc etc etc.

That's because you (mommay) left the CD in the drive.

As it's set to boot from CD, it will go around in circles until you remove the CD, and/or set it to boot from hard drive.

The CD is only required for the installation files. Once that's done, remove it.
