Hello. I have a dell vostro 1500. I recently upgraded my hard drive and have been having some problems. I have gotten windows XP Pro sp3 to load ok. However, I seem to be having trouble getting the drivers to load. I go to the dell website and enter my service tag where I should be able to get the drivers. Almost all of the drivers that it says I need seem to fail when I download them. Meaning when I go to install them it fails to install them. I have Kaspersky Pure installed as my anti-virus. One other quirk that I have noticed which I think is related to my inability to install the drivers is that I get a really slow refresh rate when I try to scroll down a page.

    Thanks!

Fail to download or fail to install once downloaded?

If a failure to download, what is the error that pops up.

They download fine, but fail to install. I tried booting into safe mode, but that does not work either. When I try to install them I get a message that they do not find the drivers or the software is insufficient to support the driver I am trying to install. Since I am using a new hybrid drive (flash and disk) do I need a driver for it?

I have gotten some of the drivers to load, but the video one still does not work. I got more success when I followed the driver install order list.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Keyser

What is the error message on the video driver installation? Which driver are you trying to install Intel or Nvidia?

I thought I have the nvidea graphics card, but when I run the driver program it says it cannot find a driver for the hardware. Dells website says it is an 8400 series but I thought it was. 7000 something series.

When I try to install the intel I get a message saying minimum software requirements are not met

Also I have 5 devices in device manager that have a yellow question mark next to them

    3 say base system device
1 is modem device on high definition audio bus
1 is video controller (VGA compatible)

I'm curious if this program can identify the hardware without the drivers installed. It is stand-alone so you just run it--it doesn't install anything.

If you don't mind give it a try: Start the program>Choose Unselect All>Tick Hardware>and hit Start. It will offer to save the .txt file on the Desktop say OK. Open the file and scan down to see if it identifies the graphics card.

Meantime, I will look at the Nvidia driver from Dell and see if I can find the folder for manual installation.

I just looked at the Nvidia download and if that didn't install I would say you have the Intel chip. (Nvidia drivers were Nvidia's own program and they are usually very good with their installation software.)

Have you tried going to C:\dell\drivers\R173069 folder and clicking on setup.exe?

I had tried installing the intel version and it would come back and say that software was insufficient for installation.

I then decided to try and download the driver directly from nvidea. It seems to have installed perfectly and seems to be working fine. I am still very puzzled why the nvidea driver from the dell website would find my Nvidea hardware. It has eliminated the screen refresh rate problem so I guess it is fixed for that part?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Have you installed the Intel chipset yet? (I'm think the 3 base system devices should be covered by that)

I'm hoping someone who knows drivers better than I, can jump in and help you out without all my guesswork.

    Hello,
Can you download Everest and attach the txt file it generates?

I have for many years used http://drivermax.com/ to identify unknown devices, and find drivers for them. It will also find other outdated drivers on your system.

Use the free version that allows up to two driver downloads per day.

P.S. I do not normally recommend to update drivers just for the sake of it. But when doing a fresh Windows install, why not start with the latest available drivers. (Not from the Dell website, but from the original hardware manufacturers.)

    Hi Fourtwo,

You need to start your own thread to address the problems you have and never give out your email address in the forums.
