Help with replacement 2.0 speakers

I was using an actual stereo system as my PC speakers for over a decade before switching to some second-hand Altec Lansing VS2120s last year. One of the speakers has begun dying, though, so I started researching around the past couple weeks for replacments.

I ended up buying a Cyber Acoustics CA-3602, but absolutely hate them: I don't know if it's the addition of the subwoofer or what, but they just sound "wrong". No matter how much I tweaked the settings, high-end sound and voices sound like they're coming down a metal pipe. So that one's on its way to being returned.

I have no problems with how the AL 2.0s sound (apart from the fact that I need to replace them); in fact I'm so used to that type of sound that I think I'm going to stick with the 2.0 setup, but I need to replace them since the speakers are dying. I've been eyeing these three as possible replacements but am hesitant to pull the trigger since I can't test them in-store:

The various specs seem to be on-par with my current ALs, so I'm hoping that translates to a similar audio experience without freaking my ears out. I know it's sort of a nebulous question, but does anyone have experience with either of those three speakers and can attest to how they are "for real"?

    Thanks,

You haven't mentioned a budget? Is $45 your limit?

Out of those the most expensive creative speakers will sound the best due to the larger bass driver but I seriously doubt they will sound twice as good.

There's very little to separate these bottom of the barrel desktop speakers, you sound like your quite particular about the sound quality you wish to have and unfortunately you could test 10 sets of them and you'd be lucky if 1 or 2 that are acceptable, they are designed to give you sound that's it, they are the next step up from having no sound, if you want sound and want to spend $20 you will get what your pay for and sound will come from your computer:-D

I would spend a little more and aim for about the $80 range in 2.1, something like this.

I've been on the forum a while and you'll be lucky if even one person has experience with the products you've posted so you'll be waiting a while and even then it's hard to trust one person when listening is so subjective.

    Good luck!

I find the bets thing to do is to read lots of speaker roundups e.g and hopefully a consensus will emerge in your price range.

Whoops! Yes, I'm looking around $40... I know normallythat would get some snickers and pointing, but honestly since I've been happy with "low-end" speakers so far, I figure I might as well stay there.

Lots of research is what I tend to do anyway, but there's a point where it just makes my head spin... This person says this, that person says that, this is great, no this is great, etc. ;)

Those last two links you provided look very helpful, particularly the table of data on the last link. That sort of hard number stuff is something I've been looking for; at least that gives me a basis to start comparing, rather than "this sounds good".

Thanks again, hopefully I'll be able to make a decision soon. :wave

Expert reviews have lots of budget speaker systems compared also but you may struggle to find some of them in the US,this is the other problem it's hard for me to give buying advice since I live in the uk.
