help with router please

hi i recently installed an origo ASR-8400 dsl modem and have been having problems

internet explorer, downloading and games such as counter strike work just fine, however:

windows/msn messenger sign themselves out every 5 minutes and i can no longer play final fantasy 11, i go into the game and get logged out (basically i dont recive info from the game nor can input info into it) with an error code telling me to check network settings.

im a bit of a newb and not sure if i should post network settings here in case that leaves my pc vunreble to viruses etc.

im on windows xp pro, 2.8 ghz pentium, 512 ddr ram, geforce 4 ti 4600

i have used origo and final fantasy support but neitheir help

I would need a bit more information to try to help you. You say you have a router problem, but you only mention a DSL connection. Is the DSL modem hooked up to a router and the problems occur on only 1 pc? Or do the problems occur on multiple pcs? If its hooked up through a router, for some games you need to set port fowarding in the router settings.

 

The ASR-8400 is a combo Modem Router.

In order to do what you need to do you need to open the applications connection ports through the Router’s NAT Firewall.

Get the Manuel and read the section concerning the ports.

it is connected to two pc's and both have the same problem
