Trying to watch TV online, installed ilivid without paying attention, it installed searchnu which hijacked all my browsers, setting home page to searchnu.com and any search from the google address bar goes to search-results.com

I was able to uninstall searchnu and ilivid fusing the control panel and then removed it from IE and Mozilla but no luck with google chrome so I know it is still lurking.

Followed the directions under Read Me First for windows XP and still have the problems. Log attached. Running all the tools worked fine except TDSSKiller - it completed the scan with nothing find then I got a windows error (screenshot attached) and could not get a log. Rest of the logs attached.

Thank you in advance, it's my wife's work computer!!!

Additional log files. My mistake, hitmanpro crashed after completing the scan. The screenshot is too large to attach. It is the generic "hitmanpro.exe has experienced a problem and needs to close".

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

    • [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKCU\[...]\Run : sysinfo (C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\DOCUME~1\KATHRY~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\2946711654Wsy.dll,Sets) -> FOUND

Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
Do not reboot your computer yet.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O2 - BHO: Somoto Toolbar - {652853ad-5592-4231-88c6-706613a52e61} - C:\Program Files\somototoolbar\vmntemplateX.dll (file missing)
    • O2 - BHO: Searchqu Toolbar - {99079a25-328f-4bd4-be04-00955acaa0a7} - C:\PROGRA~1\SEARCH~1\Datamngr\ToolBar\searchqudtx.dll (file missing)
    • O3 - Toolbar: Somoto Toolbar - {652853ad-5592-4231-88c6-706613a52e61} - C:\Program Files\somototoolbar\vmntemplateX.dll (file missing)
    • O3 - Toolbar: Searchqu Toolbar - {99079a25-328f-4bd4-be04-00955acaa0a7} - C:\PROGRA~1\SEARCH~1\Datamngr\ToolBar\searchqudtx.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Delete these folders:
    C:\Documents and Settings\KATHRYN_KINSLOW\Application Data\searchquband
    C:\Documents and Settings\KATHRYN_KINSLOW\Local Settings\Application Data\Ilivid Player

    Delete this file:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins\Search_Results.xml

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now reboot the machine.... go off and do something else now because the next part takes a long time to run.

Are you using a third party firewall?

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Looking at the subsequent steps, but NOT doing anything:
MGTools analyze.exe shows the BHO and Toolbars as you describe.
Searchquband folder exists where you state.
ilivid folder exists where you state.
    search_results.xml exists where you state.
The screen shot of registry settings for SearchScope is attached.

Sorry for the delay. Did everything right away, but have not had access to the machine for the logs. Must be working right, haven't heard any complaints. Thanks for you time, patience and expertise.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

After reboot, check to see if your firewall is working.

OK, working on it. Is all this related to searchnu or were their other problems as well? Just curious...

After the reboot I have this message (see Attachment). My wife's school does run Novell Groupwise. Awaiting instructions.

-edit, looks like it is part of Novell and is safe, but will wait for verification before unblocking and continuing.

BTW, chrome, mozilla and IE all startup without the searchnu as the home page and all go to home page as I have set them. Searches result in clean google searches, not redirects to searchnu.com.

Well, if you recall you had typed:
    So we fixed that. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
