Ok I recently decided to upgrade my RAM on my Dell XPS730. I know just enough about bios settings to get myself into trouble. And right now I am having the most difficult time understanding what ratio I should set my RAM at.

    Here are my specs:
Nvidia 790i Ultra Sli 1600 FSB
    Core 2 Extreme QX9770 3.2, 1600 FSB
    4 x 2 GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600, 9-9-9-24 1.8v
I have an H2C cooler and about 4 different fans on the box.

The board comes with some AWESOME clocking features from auto, linked, unlinked, synched…. Basically I had been running it in 'auto' but the speeds and voltages for the RAM, etc. have been creating random instability. I am looking for a stable setup. The auto listing for the memory is setting the voltage to 1.5 with random latencies. So I have found a stable set up by linking the FSB and RAM and then using the ‘synch’ ratio. CPUZ shows a 1:2 ratio now. And I set the latencies to spec at 9-9-9-24 but kept the voltage at 1.5v.

But I just don’t know much about ratios to know if this is an optimal setting or even one I should running at. I don’t want to push the bar on the hardware, just tweak it a bit to get better performance without a significant chance of damaging the components. I have been googling around but can’t find any simple explanation of ddr3 ratio to FSB that I can make sense of. I have read so many guides my eyes are falling out and every one of them explains how to come to an optimal ratio through a different equation.

Currently I have the processor multiplier at x9 for 3.6ghz, the FSB at 1600 with the ram speed at 1600mhz and it shows a 1:2 ratio. I am assuming this is due to the actual FSB being 400 and the actual speed of the ram being 800 since it is DDR. I THINK I have this down, but could use a bit of guidance and someone to explain what I SHOULD set things to. It runs stable now but I am worried I am running the RAM too hard or that I am underpushing it.

If anyone is cool enough to take it a step further for me, I could really use some help on tweaking things a little bit more. I have the cooling to do so, but haven't really thought about the ratio numbers and to be honest, the crunching of the numbers always puts my hed in a spin.

Thank you for any help shared!!
