I've followed the steps in the "Read and Run Me" sticky. I could not run either Windows Defender or CounterSpy. The first stalls whenever I run a scan, and the latter tells me that there is an error in Windows Installer and won't install.

I'm still getting frequent pop-ups and browser hijackings.

I've attached the Bitdefender, Panda, and HJT scans.

(BTW, this is a different computer than the one I got help for a few weeks ago.)

    Thanks.

Please run the below procedure and attach the requested log:

    Look2Me VX2 Removal

Then attach a new HJT log and tell me how things are working.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0014-0001-0002-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Runtime Environment 1.4.1_02) -

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\Documents and Settings\caitlin stern\Application Data\tizupd.bin
    c:\program files\EQAdvice
    C:\spyniga.exe
    c:\windows\keyboard191.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\Q2FpdGxpbiBTdGVybg\kZIDx3UDv21nx3pVv0.vbs
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Runner.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ijkat2.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ix32_32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\NewExplorer.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wpv8dmod.dll

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST)
    .

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

I did the HJT fix and used Explorer to delete all files found; I could not find three of them:

    C:\WINDOWS\Q2FpdGxpbiBTdGVybg\kZIDx3UDv21nx3pVv0.vbs
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ix32_32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wpv8dmod.dll

The computer seems to be running well now.

Fresh HJT log attached. Am I clean?

    Thanks.

Yes, your log is clean. Be very careful using programs like Limewire. Older versions of Limewire even have bundled malware with them when you install. You will see a paragraph about P2P programs in the below How to protect link.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
