Any help from anyone out there is greatly appreciated. My laptop is infected with what looks like the Trojan Downloader xs. I have Norton internet security running and have run scans on it but it hasn't picked it up. Then I ran spybot and that didn't pick it up either! Well this morning i woke up to 39 browser windows and 3 new shortcuts on my desktop. I don't know what to do. Is there a tool out there that will help me get ride of this? Is there a way for me to clean up my poor computer or does this need to be rebuilt? Any guidance is really appreciated!! I'm at a loss!! :cry

Being not the savviest, would I get the same results by using SpyDoctor? I just started to read the directions in the readme and I'm not sure where to even start. It could just be that I'm a little overwhlemed right now. :confused

We would prefer that you use SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes and ComboFix which are linked in the instructions ...and then download and install the the C:\ drive the MGTools.exe ..run it and agree to any license pop up and then when it is completely done, attach the MGLogs.zip as well as the logs from the above programs. Failry simple to do. :)

ok:) thanks. One more thing- The MG Tools one looks a bit tricky- is that one vital to the success of me getting rid of this stuff? The rest looks much less daunting as I read through it. What does the MG Tools thingee do?

When you click on the .exe file, it will automatically run scans that we need (yes, vital) and produce a log that you can then attach ...it will be here:C:\MGlogs.zip. There is nothing for you to do other than agree to the HJT license which will pop up and let it run..takes a while..just be patient. :)

ok- sounds good. the only thing i am wondering now is when i go to download all this stuff will there be a problem because of all this adware stuff poping up? I use firefox at home so hopefully that won't be a prob but last night while i was asleep all those IE windows opened on their own. just wondering:) Can you tell yet that i'm a worry wort? LOL

LOL ...didn't notice....download and run each of the malware programs (SASpyware, Malwarebytes, etc.) and that will start to clean you up ...the MGTools will show us what all is left that we need to remove.

I wouldn't bother with spybot at this time ...the other three are more effective.

Hi! So I'm half way through the process. I did buy the SpyDoctor tool and I used it first. I ran it four times on Monday night and it found over 100 items!

Then on Tuesday night I ran the Super Anti Spyware tool and the the MalwareBytes Anti Malware tool. I'm attaching the two logs I have so far. Those found more issues.

I don't know if this was a dumb move or not but I left my computer online today to see how it would do after running those two tools last night- I'm just hoping I don't come home to a mess.

Tonight I'm going to run the other two tools on the list and then I can attach the logs tomorrow. Thank you so much again. I think it's so sweet that you will check these logs:)

I can see from those logs that there will be more that needs to be cleaned. :(

Attach the others when you can. :)
