Help with trojan winnet.dll

I turned on my computer today and got a pop up about winnet.dll missing and went onto google and looked it up. AFter trying virus scans and deleting the 'virus' from my virus vault i am still getting problems. I've tried a few different scans and a new task to try and remove it but i'm still having problems. Everytime i goto open msn messneger it says that winnet.dll is missing and ive re installed messenger several times and the messege also comes up while surfing the net although i can still use the net. Help i'm not very good with technical stuff and ive download hijack this and followed the instructions on this site so if you can't help me without it i can post it. thanks

wininet.dll is not a trojan. It is a required Windows system file and is normally found in c:\windows\system32 or C:\winnt\system32 (depends on where you installed your OS and which OS you have too. I'm assuming you have WinXP or Win2k since you did not say.) However, this file could have become infected by malware. Your copy may have been deleted due to having an infection that your antivirus application could not disinfect. The Smitfraud family of infections typically infects this DLL.

You may be able to find a backup copy in c:\i386 (if the folder exists) or in C:\windows\system32\dllcache

You can copy it from one of those folders to c:\windows\system32

Otherwise you may need to get a copy from your Windows CD.

Yeah thanks, after originally getting rid of the virus my wininet.dll got deleted because it was infected. i dled a new one and my comp is working fine now^^
