I have a new video card. NVIDIA G Force 6200 PCI. For some reason I can no longer get any streaming video off anything. CNN Yahoo E mail. I have done the following (Flashed BIOS. Updated Chipset drivers, Tried 3 different drivers for the card, tried different CODEC down loads, (the CODEC did help but only on CNN) I have also used a driver cleaner All of these things have been done with the anti virus off.

Windows 2000 XP professional Service pack 2.

    PLEASE HELP

Download this file, save it to your Desktop (or someplace else where you can find it easily), then double-click it to open it. It will NOT be installed on your system; it will ONLY check to see which CODECs are currently installed:

    http://www.updatexp.com/sherlock-codec-detective.html

This is a very handy little program which can help you diagnose this problem. When Sherlock opens, click on the "SAVE" button, and save the file as "Codecs.txt" to your Desktop. Next, close Sherlock, open the Codecs.txt file, and copy and paste the entire file here.

The Codecs.txt file will list ALL of the codecs on your system, both audio and video codecs, though Sherlock itself only displays one group or the other (audio codecs OR video codecs) at one time.

Be sure to check the last entries of the Codecs.txt file, which will list any broken / defective codecs Sherlock finds; you can Google any in that section to download and install them again.

Good luck; once we see your installed codecs (especially your video codecs), we should be able to help you find any others you might need.

Did it start acting up as soon as the new card was installed? It does sound like missing Codecs, or somehow the executables for certain file extensions have been changed or removed.

I sorted through your video codec list, and I have more than a dozen codecs installed on my system than you do (I didn't bother checking the audio codecs). The best advice I can give you is to download the Mega Codec Pack from this link:

    http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm

This will be a LARGE file, almost 32 MB, so look for the speed rating on the page, which will indicate which servers are fast, and which are not; the more stars you see (up to five, like this: *****), the faster the download speed should be. Save the file to your Desktop, or someplace else where you can find it easily.

Make SURE that the file you download is "klmcodec159.exe"; I don't recommend that you download the "klmcodec160beta.exe" codec pack, simply because it hasn't been finalized yet. Double-check the file name to be sure you get the right one.

Once the download is complete, find the file and double-click it to install it. Then, reboot your system; when you get back to the Desktop, log on to the sites you've had problems with, to see if the problem has been resolved.

Good luck; let us know how this turns out...

actully your codecs arnt at fault, its a problem with your computer. IF the codecs where to blame it would mess up before now. Run driver cleaner first, and make sure all old drivers are gone, 2nd reinstall chipset and then video card drivers. After that is done restart your computer.

You don't REALLY believe that, do you? He's ALREADY told us that he's flashed the BIOS, updated his chipset drivers, installed 3 different drivers for the videocard, NONE of which seemed to help...

However, he ALSO told us that installing new codecs DID help rectify at least PART of the problem he's having viewing streaming video, which is a pretty good clue that he needs to install a more complete set of codecs (both audio and video), in order to resolve this.

If you STILL think you're right, then you need to tell us EXACTLY which "problem with your computer" he's actually experiencing, because your reply is MUCH too vague to be of any real benefit. You're advising him to redo steps he's ALREADY taken, though he's told us that they did NOT correct the problems he's having when trying to view STREAMING VIDEO...

Do you actually think that his system should be able to display a multitude of different types of STREAMING VIDEO, when ONLY the chipset and video drivers have been installed, WITHOUT also installing the corresponding codecs for the various streaming video files? When did ANY version of Windows develop this "feature"? Don't you think you should notify Microsoft about this? I imagine they'd be glad to know that they've finally SOLVED a problem for the end users...

You've stated that, "...IF the codecs where to blame it would mess up before now..." How did you arrive at THAT conclusion? Since most of the codecs ALREADY installed on his system do NOT support streaming video, how is your "advice" supposed to help him? You want him to RE-install his chipset and videocard drivers; is there some method of installing those drivers which will magically allow him to view STREAMING VIDEO directly from the 'net? If so, you need to share THAT information with the whole WORLD, because NO ONE will need to install any third-party codec packs ever again, which will save a LOT of people a great deal of anguish and wasted bandwidth downloading and installing software they DON'T need...

I can't WAIT for you to explain to us how YOUR "advice" will actually help to resolve this; don't keep us waiting...

    Yeah, what he said!

Crawdaddy, I'm wondering what card you had installed prior? Was it a GeForce card as well, or an ATI? Also, when you installed the new drivers, did you start out with the drivers that came with the new card, or did you just install directly from the Nvidia site? Reason is, I had a similar problem when I switched over to an ATI card from a GeForce card. I didn't install all (or any) of the drivers that came with the card, I just installed the Catalyst driver directly from the ATI site. I ended up having a lot of the same issues. Once I uninstalled every driver I could find with drivecleaner, I installed the packaged drivers then installed the Catalyst drivers from the website. Fixed all my problems with missing codecs and a few other issues that were present.

    Hope this helps. :)

the fact his video worked before the video change also means that the codecs are intact. When you change video cards the codecs dont disapper. He needs to wipe every driver with Driver cleaner, reinstall chipset, then VGA. Make sure Hardware Acceleration is enabled for his media players, WMP, and Quicktime, those are the two most common ones tied into web browsers. The issue he is having is its not off loading the video properly to the video card, its off loading it to software and thats where the lag is. Now unless he reformated his hard drive its not a codec issue, its a hardware issue, if you disagree with that fact then i can tell you dont mess with much hardware.

I had no card before it was just the intergraded thing. So this was my first stand a lone card, I did install the drivers from the disk and all was fine till I went to CNN and tried to watch a video. I have used the driver cleaners on the ATI and nVidia slections only. I will go with the down load and report in.
    Thank you all again.

Well I am back and the there has been no improvement... It still Crashes and my boot time is getting longer... If I take the "clean every driver" Approach. Can I use the program Driver cleaner Pro? And I am not sure I know how to go about the VGA and Hardware Acceleration thing. I am willing to try and as for chipset and BIOS what’s one more reinstall among the many...All my important stuff is on a external drive so I can take this pos back to ground zero if need be

actually if you are comfortable with a reinstall of windows, that would be the best idea overall. Also in your bios is your oboard disabled?
