    Hi

for a while back I noticed that my computer started to run slower. Ive used Norton internet security 2006, which I upgraded to 2008 last week.

Going thru Majorgeeks advice and removal guide detected but did not remove, unfortunately not, the Virtuemonde virus. Ive also tried Atributes removal tool and Symantecs tool. neither can find the tool, although it shows up when I run Spybot search.

Spybot also detects Microsoft.windowssecuritycenter_disabled. I guess this might be because Norton disables it, it might not be malware/spyware/virus. I can manually turn i back on if I want to. Please advice on this issue to. All other malware were removed.

    Please help me.

I have attaced log from spybot, mgtool and combofix. I also saved a log from AVG but I cant find it now, I send the file I think it is.

    Sincerely a confused
    Morten

Here is also the Spybot log, virtuefix log from both atribune(or is it atribute) and Symantec.

Hope this will help getting a solution to my Virtumonde problem.

Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    MarketResearch

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    * On the page that opens, scroll down to Microsoft cache control
    * then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    * When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
Now do the same for: OUERFX
    * Click OK until you get back to Windows.

    * Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    * At the lower right, click on the Config button
    * Then click the Misc tools button
    * Select Delete an NT Service
    * Copy/paste MSControlService into the box that opens, and press OK
    * If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    * Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Thanx TimW for your quick reply.

Ive followed your guide. MarketSearch wasnt visible in the add/remove program folder. I found it though in CCleaner and uninstalled it from there.

Then I went on with the rest of your intstruction.

Ive attached the MGtool.zip and Avanger.txt as requested.

I noticed that the system stopped after I did everything. I had to shut down by powering off. After that its seems like the system is running ok. But still a little bit slow.

What should I do about AVG and Spybot. Can I use one of them besides Norton internet security or should I remove both. What about all the other small programs I have installed. Can I remove them as well.

And the final question is. Is my computer clean???

Thanx for the help so far.

    Hi again

started doing a scan i spybot. Found 4 new malwares. Then the scan was stopped. Saved the report. Then started the scan again and will post the result from this. It also found the microsoft.windowssecuritycenter_disabled. I wasnt able to finish the scan as the computer once more stopped.

As soon as I get more info, Ill let you know.

When I started the computer again I also noticed that something had taken away the Norton toolbar in IE.

The system is slower now than before and sometimes when I use the IE the screen turns white and nothing happens. Its at the same time the system stops totally.

Any thoughs and solutions about this.

The first spybot log was showing cookies -> nothing to worry about.
The second is showing a few registry keys ...so we can remove them:

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

Now re-run spybot and attach that log also.

    Hi Tim

I did as you said. I looked through the log and it seems like the registry wasnt altered. Any Idea why.

I also noted that I now get an error message everytime I turn off the computer. Could this be caused by the things we are doing to remove the malware/spyware?

Any idea why my computer is still slow.

Ive attached the two logs you asked for.

    Sincerely
    Morten

I'm not seeing any malware ......you need to tell me exactly what the message is when you log off.

    In the mean time:
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

    * Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    * Under Main choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser

    * Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser

    * Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
