    Hello,

I got this virus/malware on my system two days back. I went through the Read and Run me First guide. Attached are the logs. After running all the scans, I uninstalled Mcafee and installed the avast antivirus software. The computer was without any anti virus protection for about 10 mins. Nothing seems to be affected now, fingers crossed. Please take a look at the logs and let me know if you find anything. Your help is much appreciated.

    Hello, spidermanusa.

The below fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for issue(s) on this machine. Also, please do not install any other software while we are still working with you unless instructed. Once we have given you the all clean and final instructions you will be free to install what you want.

And where is your 3rd party firewall? I see Kerio Firewall in "C:\Documents and Settings\Jagan\My Documents\" but not in the HJT log nor your Uninstall Listing. And why not have it in the "C:\Program Files\" directory?

    Step 1:
Please look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and proceed

    Step 2:
Now we need to use ComboFix to remove some malware.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. *Remember to re-start them before coming back online.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\uvlkkfvn.exe

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Step 3:
    Run Ccleaner

    Step 4:
Now install the latest Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Step 5:
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Then attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • C:\combofix.txt

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

    Thanks!

    dr.m,

I don't have any third party firewall. I am using windows firewall. I went through your procedure and did not encounter any errors. Attached are the logs. The system is working fine now. There are no popups. The windows automatic update - which was disabled and made me search for malware - is enabled and working now.

Thanks much for your help! You guys are great.

    Hello, spidermanusa

Did you have any trouble un-installing Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_19 ? Also - updating to the latest Sun Java?

Windows Firewall does not provide adequate protection and is only an incoming (uni-directional) firewall.

    Step 1: --- A reminder!
Please look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and proceed
    Step 1:
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    Step 2:
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Step 3:
    Run Ccleaner

    Step 4: --- A reminder!

    • C:\avenger.txt

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!
