OK...its 1:10 AM and I am getting pretty frustrated.

It all started when I clicked on a url in outlook express. This link was in a regular weekly emailing of jobs that I have been recieving for 3 years... it has always worked before. It re-directed me to an adult search page. the little line at the bottom said the right url at first...then redirect to blah blah. the last couple of weeks I have been having a little trouble when I click on a search result in Yahoo...the first time it will take me to another search page. When I back out of it and click again it takes me to the right place.

So I thought I would be smart and run spybot S&D and fix it....came up empty.
I downloaded Spyware Doctor and it found 183 infections....29.95 later and several restarts in safe mode to fix "serious registry problems" I still have the same problem. It found a trojan downloader and fixed it...the last scan came up clean. Still have the same problem

I am attaching a Hijack this log hoping someone can help me out.

    Hi

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Am still working on stuff....my dsl has been down and I work out of town so it will be thursday before I get back home....

it is already working better with all of the cleaning I have done. Links that are sent with e-mails have stopped working...but I think that I had that problem with spyware doc the last time I tried it.

do you have an opinion on the best anti-virus? I have a norton subscription with...but obviously it isn't working very well. I now have a year sub to spyware doc (damn it). Any thought are appreciated!

Thanks for all of your help!

No probs on when you can get to running the guide steps, we are not going anyplace soon ;)

as to Antivirus, you'll get many various opinions to whats best, My thoughts are the best one is the one that keeps you virus free, but part of the process of keeping yourself malware free is safe surfing, but thats easier said that done these days as malware is out to trip you up and force you to click the popups etc

but onto what I personally woud concider good AVs are:

    Paid.... Kaspersky or Nod32
    Free... AVG or Avast

    Anti Malware:

    Paid... Spysweeper or Ewido
Free... Windows Defender, Ad-Aware SE, A-Squared and Spywareblaster ( the latter in Spywareblaster is not a scanner & doesnt run in the background all it does it add known malware urls/cookies/activeX components to the bloacked list of your Browser, this aids in stopping many known malwares from being installed in the first place )

But also give this guide a read, How to Protect yourself from malware!
