I got a hold of a Vundo Virus and only 1 virus program is able to detect it, but cannot remove it. All of my other virus and spyware tools do not even detect it. I get unwanted popups on the internet. I downloaded HijackThis and installed and ran it, but I'm not an expert. I think I know what to get rid of but I'm not too sure about it. Can You help? Bellow is my log.......

Edit : removed inline hijackthis log

If anyone can help I surely would appreciate it

    Hi

First start off with these instructions Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Removal

then complete the below and attach all logs requested.

Our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    Halo,

Thank You for your quick response. I am in the middle of going through the stuff you suggested that I do first before posting. I do appologize for posting without doing this stuff first. Thanks. When I am done I will post all logs that you requested. Thank You so much for your prompt response.

    Halo,

Thanks again. Upon the completion of the scans, my eyes were wide open and I was crushed to see what was on my computer. This post has my AVG Anti-Spyware logs and it did fix all of these issues. Ran it twice, I'm paranoid these days now.

You have several items disabled using MsConfig. Our instructions clearly state not to use MsConfig. I need you to enable everyhting that is disabled. You will be required to reboot for the changes to take effect.

You have HijackThis 2 installed this is beta software and is not used at this site. Download HijackThis 1.99.1 from the download link provided in our Read Me.

    Post fresh logs for:
    HijackThis v1.99.1
    GetRunKeys
    ShowNew

Sorry about that. I did what you asked and re-ran the 3 applications.

    Thanks Again.

The Desktop is not where our instructions tell you to put HijackThis, and hijackthis.exe has not been renamed per our instructions. Move HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HJT and rename hijackthis.exe to analyze.exe. Do this before continuing with my instructions.

    Download
    - Pocket Killbox

Copy the contents of the below quote box to Notepad; Save As FixReg.reg to your Desktop; make sure File Type: is set to All Files (*.*).
    Close Notepad.

Locate FixReg.reg on your Desktop. Double-click on it and answer 'Yes' when asked if you want to merge with the registry.

Run HijackThis. Click the 'Do a system scan only' button. Place a checkmark in the box next to the following lines:
Click on the 'Fix checked' button. Wait for HijackThis to finish; close HijackThis.

    Now run Pocket Killbox:

Choose Tools -> Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.

NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue..

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If Killbox does not reboot or you get a Pending Operations type error message just reboot your PC yourself.

    Now boot into SAFE MODE

Post fresh logs for the following:
    ShowNew
    GetRunKey
    HijackThis

    Shadow_Puter_Dude,

Here are the log files after your last instructions.

Just a side note. I have a Bachelors Degree in IT Networking, how can a guy like me learn how to do this short of stuff?

What kind of training would I need? Was just asking.

Your logs look fine. Even thought the HJT log appears to be from Safe Mode, it shows no signs of malware.
Reading threads like the ones here, and at other forums; that specialize in Malware removal.

There are a few sites that teach malware removal. They are mostly the same in their procedures and several of their teachers are at multiple sites. Their one shortcoming is an over reliance on the results of a HijackThis log.

For the most part it is research, time and experience. Learning to recognize what an infection looks like, where they hide, and their physical symptoms. The most important aspect of learning to fight Malware is having an experienced Malware Fighter as a mentor, like Chaslang; who is my mentor.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    • If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    • If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    • If we used SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    • If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    • If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    • If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.regfixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now. or
    • You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    • If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    • After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
