    Hi, I just got a Gateway laptop. Its not new but i'm having a big problem. The laptop turns on and lets me log in and everything but after 2 minutes or so a blue screen pops up and then the computer quickly restarts itself. What should i do?

    What Windows version are you using?

    As you have just got this laptop, was it fully working before you got it or has it always had this issue?

    Try booting into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if it still crashes, this can help trace the problem being a driver or some new installed software. So do you know what the history of his laptop is and what if any software or drivers where installed before the BSODs started happening?

    When in safe mode if it doesnt crash, scan the laptop for malware/viruses.

    What is the BSOD code, if it doesnt stay on screen quick enough, click My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab and then next to Startup and Recovery click Settings and untick Automatically restart, which will allow you to read and note the BSOD code, the code is normally much better than a debug dump.

    Thanks i put it into safe mode and looked at the event viewer it says error but how do i fix it?

    hebrewhottie, stick to this thread as already advised. You have not answered any of the questions asked by Halo.

    Is the laptop still crashing in safe mode. If yes did you try and get the BSOD code as mentioned.

    What did the Event Viewer show?

    Thanks i got it to work good. I'm not exactly sure what i did maybe it was just a little glitch but its working fine now, infact im posting this thread on it so thanks guys for all the help :-D
