I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has been a great little laptop for what it was intended for, however, something is wrong with it now.

Typically on start up, after signing in, the screen goes black, then comes back smaller than it should be, then like a minute later it resets, goes black, then comes back full size. Well the other night, it went black and came back smaller, but never reset to full size. So I restarted it thinking this would help, as it has in the past. However, when I did the restart, it came up with a black and white screen talking about (Stage 1 of 3) and drivers and stuff. It ran its course and then my normal Vista log-in screen came up. So I signed on and it logged in but no screen ever came up, just a black screen - but I could see my mouse pointer. After a few minutes, a blue screen came up with white writing and it said something like "Windows Failure ..... shutting down". So it shut down. So I turned it back on and started it back in Safe-mode with Networking. I was able to log in, get on the internet, find this website and here I am!

Thanks in advance for any help you all can offer!

    Hi,

Try Start then in the search box type in device manager and hit <enter>.
In the device manager window do you see any yellow exclamation/question marks?
Click the + sign next to display adapter and post back the name of the device listed there.
Also click the + next to monitor and give its name as well.

You need to get the stop error and post the first string of numbers and letters.
0x000000## where ## could be a letter or a number.

    Re: Help!

    Hi,
Can you please give me the service tag# for your machine or ....

Download the free, Speccy http://majorgeeks.com/Speccy_d6358.html then run Speccy and click File > Save as Text File, then attach the log as per instructions below (note: as Speccy also now lists more data it likely will have your Windows licence serial key also in the log, so look for Operating System and under that Serial Number and delete the code and Save the log)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880

all of which can be done in safemode with networking.

    Thanks
