my fren using win 98
have application error (i dont know what he did)
and system indicate low ram

how to solve this problem with out formating

 

i dont know what he did ? havent go to his housee yet
acoording to him, its like application errors,and it promopt him to press enter a few times, final message was 'low memory' and he cannot get into windows

Maybe you'd better go over to his house and have a careful look at
1. what he has on the machine (we know win98, but we know nothing about his RAM, vid card, sound card, anti-virus, anti-spyware, ... Tell us what you can.)
2. what he's doing when he gets the error messages
3. what the application errors ARE
4. what the pop-ups SAY, when they ask him to press Enter
5. what, exactly, the low memory/low RAM message says

... that kinda thing would help a lot, as my colleague suggested already. (Your second post added no new information to your statement of the problem.)

 

1. no sound card no vid card no anti virus no anti spyware
2.he was downlaoding songs and playing games
3.some vxd error
4.no pop up cannot go in windows cannot go in safe mode
5.IO system corrupted

 

Does your fren have the original Win98 installation CD?

(Why do I think I already know the answer to this question?)

i dont have any win98 cd after buying winxp i gave away my win98
now i m stuck and one thing i like to help people

 

i have try installing win95, win98, win me
i cannot even boot anything

this is the error message

cannot find a device that maybe needed to run windows or a windows application The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refer to this device file, but the device file no longer exists.
if you deleted this file on purpose , try uninstalling the associated application using its unisatall or setup program
if you still want to use the application association with this device file try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file

while initializing device ios:
error:An i/o subsystem driver failed to load
either a file in the .iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt,or the system is low on memory

the last time i had that error message i did this -

Boot to a real DOS mode and at the C:\ prompt issue the following command

CD\
ATTRIB -R -H -S system.1st
SMARTDRV
REGEDIT /L: C:\SYSTEM.1ST /E MY.REG
REGEDIT MY.REG


it basically resets your registry to default settings but you dont lose info for installed apps.
