I have an Emachine computer. Last week i removed windows XP and installed windows 98 second edition. Got sick of all of the problems i was having with XP. Anyway everything is working great except for the color. I have tried to change it and everytime it reboots the colr won't change. i was told that I have to get the driver for my monitor. When I bought the system last year it never came with a disk for the monitor. Can anyone help me? I would love to be able to see what I am doing when i am on the computer instead od seeing everything blurry and out of focus. Thank you for the help.

what emachine do you have? like "eMachine T2682" for example ... what is the make/model of your monitor?

i doubt it but could it be you have the color quality set to 16 bit? (right click your desktop> properties> settings tab and there will be a drop down menu in the color quality box) you want to set it at 32 bit

and personally i dont think it matters what OS you are using you are going to have problems :p just avoid ME like the plague

I have an EView 17s. That is the model number. I have tried to change the settings, it asked me to reboot the computer for the settings to take effect, I do but the settings don't change. Short of beating the computer i have tried everything i can think of. I even tried to download the G-Spot from this site to tell me what kind of video card i have ,and all I got was a list of about 100 different ones. Is there a way to find out and then change the settings? Thanks for your help.

are you only getting 16 color mode? like everythings really grainy? if that is the case you do not have a display driver, and you kinda need one lol and you should download this:

    http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

it is a program called everest and will tell you everything about your computer ... once it downloads open it, tick 'display' then tick 'GPU' and you will get a screen that looks like the picture below ,,, you will notice the first option that says "video adapter" and to the right it will say the name of your graphics card ... and tell me that

i downloaded the everest program and this is what was displayed.
    Windows Video Super VGA
    PCI/APG Video S3 Prosavage DDR
    GPU Was blank
    Monitor name Sampo Alphascan 718
If you need more information please let me know. I really want to get this computer back up and running. Yes all i get is 16 color mode. Which really bothers the eyes after a while. Thanks for your help.

ok ... the reason you are having trouble with your graphics is because the driver for your graphics chipset is obsolete ... well just the windows 98 version(the windows XP version is not obsolete) ... so the best i can do for you is give you this link to an unofficial driver ... just click this link --> Click here for Windows 95/98/Me drivers ... the download pop up is kind of delayed so give it a moment

Not to make it more complicated then it has to be for you,

Now you say you did a windows 98 install.? Was that windows 98SE or just windows 98.?
OR, Did you use your recovery discs that came with that E- Machine.

What E-Machine model is it.? "NOT" the monitor model.

If you tell me I can help you.

If you just installed windows 98 or 98SE, What you need IS the motherboard chipset drivers, For that motherboard. If you tell the model of E-Machine OR the motherboard that is in it. We can help you find the motherboard software for you.

Its NOT a monitor problem (its the motherboard chipset software that you need).

You can look here for what model Of E-Machine you have there, NOT the monitor that you have.

Thanks for the help. The everest program i used to find the information out says that:
    Mother board name FIC AM37
    version PCB 1,x
it also says next to it 3 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DIMM video, audio, lan
the computer is an EV 500
    I installed windows 98 SE.
It came with windows XP but I took it out and put in windows 98 SE. Other than the color display everything else works great.I tis just hard to see with everything blurry and out of focus.Thank you everyone for all your help so far.

emachines website will only give you the display driver for Windows XP *not* the windows 98 SE driver, which is obsolete and not supported(even the graphics card vendor doesn't have it)

if you look at the emachines site:

    http://www.emachines.com/support/support_info.html?prodName=W2247

you will notice that the display driver is the XP version which is most likely not to work with Windows 98 SE ... the link to the Windows 98 SE driver is here:

    Why!
If you were have problems with XP, lot's of help here at MG.
XP is much better than 98. the first thing that comes to mind is windows 98 = no security, fat32 file system = stone age.
If you were having problems with xp, mostlikely youll have more with 98.
If your problems when using XP was spyware virus, just wait going to be much worse on 98.

last thought, for ya posted problem, probably need driver's chipset etc that is on your XP/ restore cd that came with pc, the windows 98/cd drivers are dated ( older that the technology of your PC) and lack chipset drivers.

    Pryate,
I downloaded the driver four differnet times. Each time i try to install it setup starts and then quits installing. When I try to extract it from my zip files it shows that everything was extracted but with errors. Is there anything else that I can do go to get this up and running the way it should. Thank you for all of you help everyone.

That link didn't work either. I think that my best bet is to get a new video card.I tried to install it and after starting setup a small window pops upsaying that it needs an Windows NT base in order to run.I will look for a new video card as soon as I can. Thanks for your help.

Just go and try the software form the e-machine site and download the driver from there for your motherboard, Just because they say they are for XP doesent mean that they will not work. Xp drivers or windows 98 drivers work for the most part, most of the time. Before you go out and spend money on a video card (if not). If thats the cast I would just reinstall the recovery disc's that came with the computer. It was ment to run with that operating system, it should work fine. If not learn how to use XP home edition. Thats your better solution. JUst my advice for you.

you need to go to the screen manafacture website and search for the right drivers for the screen and then you will be able to see what you are doing.

you could also update our os to windows 2000 as it is alot more stable than XP and 98se

You also have the recovery disc's , If you have 2 the drivers should be on the second disc. So you can just install from that disc. Worth a check anyway for you. Start out to do the install from the device managment folder, and just install the drivers from the disc's. You dont need an install .exe file to do the install.

Now dont get her more confused then she already is, She does not need any monitor software for what is needs to do. If you read her thread you would know that she has windows XP that came with the computer and she installed 98. Her problem has nothing to do with monitor software. Besides windows 2000 is a dose.

I need help with my Windows 98! You see I was playing a JNES videogame emulater. I added a cheat that messed up my computer. It looks like it's in safe mode but it isn't. When I try to change the settings from 16 color bit to 16 high color or 256 color, it exits out to say restart your computer, but when it exits out I can see it changes back to 16 color bit. So when I try changing pixels it does the same thing so, I can't fix it. HELP?! Also will I need the Windows cd, because it's my friends old computer so he might have the cd. Reply as soon as possible! Thanks!

    Greetings all!

I've just received an eView 17s monitor to replace my old NEC which went belly up. However, I cannot locate a driver for download. I didn't see in this thread where the download would be, other than one link that isn't valid anymore (just defaults to eMachines' main support page).

Would anyone know of a driver for an eView 17s running on Windows XP SP2?

    Thanks!
