Hi Everyone, I messed my computer up really badly and I have no idea what to do. I was removing some unused programs that were pre-loaded when I purchased it and I believe I must have accidentally deleted something really important. My computer will boot up and work fine as long as I don't have to type anything anywhere. Whether it be to enter a password for my email, to try to rename something, or to try to enter search terms or a url address, as soon as I click on the box where the text should go and hit the keyboard, the computer freezes. Ctrl, Alt, Delete won't even work, nothing. I have to hold in the power button to turn it off. I've tried to restore it but that doesn't work and I'm limited with what I can do since I can't type anything. Has anyone heard of such a thing? Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

When you say restore, do you mean you went through and did a repair install from your CD, or do you mean you have a OEM Restore disc instead of an install disc?

I'd honestly say you have to do a format and start over, if you are limited to no or very little ablitity to use the keyboard, that would be your best option. It will/would take forever to fix under those circumstances.

Also, if you could provide some of the Specs on your computer those would be useful too.

I went through the system restore tool and tried to restore my system to an earlier date, since I can do that without having to use the keyboard. I'm guessing it was unsuccessful since I deleted something important. It just tells me it failed and no changes were made to my computer. I'm really not sure what a repair install is but I do have a system recovery disc but haven't used it since it says to use it under the guidance of a professional, which obviously I am not :) . I'm currently at work and don't know any of my computer specs off hand but I can look that up this evening. What kind of info would you need? If I did have to start over I'm guessing I'll lose all of my saved data?

    Thanks.

If you do a repair install, you'll keep your data. If you end up having to do a clean install... you're data will be gone.

    Specs:
Manufacturer, Processor/Speed, RAM, Hard Drive/Capacity. Which preloaded applications you were uninstalling if you can remember.

That's all I can think of right now. We'll hash out the rest as we move along. :)

Hi There! I got some info for you. My computer is a V2 Premier with a Pentium 2.4GHz processor, 224MB RAM, the only Hard Drive info I could find is that it has a total size of 72.5 GB, Free Space 56.5 GB and File System FAT32 (whatever that means :)). Hopefully this all makes sense to you. I removed a lot of programs, most were just microsoft programs like Money 2003, Typing, Streets and Trips, Encyclopedia, and some games that I never play. I used the Add/Remove software thing and I got a few messages about shared files, which I deleted, maybe that's the problem. I also had Pivot Software loaded which allows the monitor to be rotated...ever heard of it? I never use it so I removed that too. I also removed Stuffit and Java 2 Runtime Environment. There were 3 versions of Java so I deleted the 2 oldest versions, was that bad? At one point I thought my monitor was going bad because I had a single blue line going vertically down the screen but I did a windows update and it went away.

Well, there ya go. Thanks so much for the help.

Still having the problem? I was sick for a little bit and forgot about this thread until this morning... sorry about that.
