    This may not be the right thread but i have a dvd-rom drive and i put dvd's in there and it wont read them. I am using windows media player 10..does anybody know why its not and is there any free software out there that will play dvd's? thanks

    Just use powerDVD. By default WMP does not support DVD playback unless you have a decoder card (which is basicly unheard of now sicne software decoders like PowerDVD are free).

    As Coco said, WMP 10 does not play DVDs without a hardware decoder. AFAIK, it will not use software codecs.

    Try Media Player Classic.
