still struggling with the phone thing.they sent me a samsung, which doesn't seem to be any better than the Motorola, so my question is how can i find out which phone gets the best reception without actually getting them to send me one after another until one works? why does my husbands nokia work so much better? they (verizon) don't stock that phone anymore, so how do i evaluate the phones available? is there anyone here that understands how they work or could point me in some direction? is there a web site that has evaluated them, or anything like that? ANY suggestions would be welcome. much aloha. PS. rang verizon to find out why it was getting so warm. they said it was because of the poor reception and that it was having to work harder. the phone gets so warm that i cannot hold it against my face. is that reasonable? :( :(

thanks. i know that verizon has the best coverage on this island so im stuck with them, the question is which phone has the best reception. the critia covered doesnt seem to include reception, or am i missing something? if im not than why isnt the reception of the different models a testable critia?

you may want to see if your phone manufacturer or 3rd party manufacturers provide higher gain antenna or aerials (by the queens English ;))

well i rang nokia.....they said that it was down to something called gsm as opposed to ddma. (i always thought ddma was the chemical name for ecstasy, which I'm definitely not getting, either the chemical version or the naturally produced variety!), and that their antenna was simply better. they cannot sell me a phone direct as they no longer deal with verizon. rang verizon and was told it had nothing to do with gsm or any other kind of initials, but that the nokias had less features and therefor the energy was directed into the reception and transmission. so are they really saying that the new phones now have so many features that they no longer operate as phones? that really is going from the sublime to the bl**dy ridiculous! rang the main store on this island and they are going to try and get one from either radio shack or Honolulu, so in short the saga continues. thanks again kodo for your response, once again I'm am so impressed by this site and the willingness of people to help with the most obscure requests. much aloha

You might be able to buy one used on ebay or the Howard Phone Forums....
