Me and the other tech have been trying to figure out why this dell that got brought into us was so slow. We cleaned up the startup, moved the 50 files being stored on the desktop off. Ran Anti-virus/spyware scans, and yet it was still slowing down on occasion. I thought I'd check in on the scan I was doing and I saw CPU usage at 100% and didn't think much of it till I saw the scan was complete. I noticed it was helpsvc.exe that was taking up all the resources (100% CPU and 61K of RAM). I found this article (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839017) on microsofts website, but it says it only applies to XP Pro and this system is XP Home, and it also says SP2 fixes the problem and this system has SP2 installed. Any ideas?
